My missus' friends live London way, some of them think Boris is doing a great job in regards to Covid and when the government brought out the tier system they all thought it was a great idea, now they are going into tier 3 they are all up in arms, the missus was speaking to one of them last night and the girl was crying and kicking - off about it all on on the phone even though she backed the tier system, a case of it's a good idea as long as it's not me.

Does anybody else think that, as a society, we are being a bit hypocritical too.

I mean, we've asked the Muslim Communities to obey covid restrictions during Eid and Ramadan. And the various Indian religions that celebrate Diwali to do the same.

But here we are, in the middle of a second peak in the pandemic, massively loosening restrictions so people can enjoy what is still effectively a Christian festival. It just stinks of double standards to me.
Christian festival ? I reckon very few people nowadays give its religious connection a second thought.
In any case the early Christians latched it onto traditional winter solstice celebrations.

The true meaning of Christmas has been lost on the majority for a long time.

It`s become nothing more than a festival of excess now.

If they stopped Christmas services, but allowed everything else to remain open, most people wouldn`t even bat an eyelid.

to be fair we couldn't celebrate Easter which is the most important festival in Christianity

He has done a leaving thread as well.
Brilliant stuff.

We're not travelling anywhere and are just celebrating Christmas at home mate, me, the missus and our lad. The missus was debating whether to invite her parents over but her parents are on the shielded list so she's now decided against it.
Ha ha

I didn't intend that to look like I was feeling sorry for myself. Me and the missus are looking forward to Christmas this year. We haven't cooked turkey for such a long time and we used to make all our own extras like Cranberry sauce, stuffing, pigs in blankets, bacon rolls, gravy, mince pies etc. We've put the tree and deckies up for the first time in 7 years and, being in Tier 1, are able to go out and enjoy the local hospitality (albeit covid restrictions are strictly adhered to down here.

It was more for your missus' elder brother spending Christmas alone mate.

very true but also very irrelevant. If you look at the number of practicing Christians in this country, i.e. those that regularly attend church services, I wouldn't be surprised if they were actually outnumbered by Muslims and maybe even followers of Hindu.

The point is, Christmas IS a religious festival in the Christian calendar and we therefore leave ourselves open to criticism from other religions.

So are they cancelling that christmas relaxation then?

Its impossible to enforce so whatever they decide people will do their own thing. Again if they do cancel it, its purely because the situation has worsened in London.

Is 1 death in London worth 3 or 4 in the north? Thats the way it seems at times.
