I wasn't really that much in favour of the loosening of restrictions in the first place. But now the decision has been made millions of people will have made plans, bought and ordered food and drink, booked travel, and not least built up hopes of seeing loved ones they possibly haven't seen for 9 months or more.

To reverse the decision now would cause so many problems for people. I wouldn't put it past them though. Wouldn't be surprised if Wales and Scotland pulled out first either.

Turning off all the street lights will ensure that noone travels and therefore isolates correctly over Christmas and new year.

The stricter they make the rules the less the public will buy in. Surely even this inept government can work that out.

No rules means a free for all. But sensible rules and most will adhere. Pragmatism is key in this.

It's almost like Boris is just playing to the crowd at times. "You can have 5 days over the holidays with 3 bubbles" everyone's like "brilliant" Boris then is like "Hang on, I've cocked - up, you can only have 3 days" the crowd are like "boooooooo" it wouldn't surprise if the next step wasn't everyone has to stay home in their own bubble for Christmas, cue riots! lol

They could probably cut it to the 3 main days ( Christmas eve, Day & Boxing Day) and most would accept it and there's probably merit to that. It's about using common sense, very few will have big parties this year. I know my family certainly aren't having the normal things we normally do, or anything close. But if you try to deprive people of that hour or two on Christmas day with their parents, kids, grandkids etc, then I don't think people will comply at all, and it would actually encourage some to actually ramp up their Christmas plans i reckon.

An hour or two ?

I should be so lucky.
