But to put it plainly so what?

If someone doesn't get the vaccine then the risk is on them, not us. Anything in life has this, it's not a new concept. Parents don't vaccinate kids , hence why we have outbreaks of viruses that should be confined to history.

Unless you think we should continue to have restrictions in place because a minority decide they don't need a vaccine then that is simply ridiculous. The majority of people will get the vaccine , same as the majority of people wear masks , socially distance and have not seen friends / family in months.

You can't compensate for stupid, once the vaccine is in the general circulation, that's it, no more of this restrictions or isolation or shutting businesses down. Otherwise this never ends.

If someone refuses the vaccine and then dies of covid then what difference is that to anyone listed in the Darwin awards, honestly?

“So what” is simple. If 35% of people aren’t vaccinated and you go back to normal life then the virus will spread.

Not sure why you’re making it a moral discussion as it’s not really relevant.

Hospital figures - 208 deaths were announced today, down 30 on yesterday and up 17 on last Monday. 190 deaths were in English hospitals, down 5 on yesterday and up 7 on last week. The 7 day rolling average rises to 345.71

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 189 deaths were announced today, down 42 on yesterday and down 14 on last Monday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 426.57

For the 60 day cut off, 203 deaths were announced today, down 46 on yesterday and down 13 on last Monday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 472.57

If we wait until everyone has got the virus to return to some form of normality then there won't be much left to go back to. God knows how half of the hospitality businesses in this country are going to manage in the new year, given it seems pointless (or will be illegal) for them to be open through their busiest time of the year.

I'm sure that what we'll probably see once the vaccine has been administered through most of the population is kind of what we're seeing with the Everton ballot.

Events etc will be back on, but you'll have had to have the vaccine or, conversely, have proof of a negative covid test to be able to go. That will obviously rely on the testing they have had in Liverpool and which will be in Tier 3 areas being rolled out across the country. I'm talking months off (March at least).

There’s a distinction between some form of normality and just going back to normal, or as he put it “it will all seem like a bad dream”.

Once the likes of hospitality, sports grounds, large scale events and airlines / trains etc start asking for proof of vaccination I’d say that a lot of the anti vax will be queuing up to have it.

For instance could you honestly see the likes of Glastonbury going ahead without some kind of proof of vaccination, because I can’t.

No doubt some of the anti vax mob will start screaming freedom of choice and discrimination, but to me it’s quite simple, you choose not to have it, then you also choose to exclude yourself from high risk events / areas.

Yeah. It is crap, it is controlling, but it is what it is. We need it to get through it.

Even if that has to be with just the availability to go and get a test (because I find it unlikely everyone who is willing to be will be vaccinated before next summer anyway, barring a miracle), and get your result quickly, then that's surely a way through it.

There does have to be some form of - for lack of a better term - 'getting a grip' in the new year. There has to be a sensible approach when the vaccine is out there. A two-pronged approach of vaccination and rapid testing (and also, that continuous testing so that people don't have to isolate for two weeks).

I'd be happy to provide a negative test/proof of vax if it meant the pop culture/comic convention scene can return

It will only spread between people who aren't vaccinated.

Which then is their own fault.

Those vaccinated and continue to be vaccinated will have very little to no danger.

It very much is a moral discussion. Here's a vaccine that saves you from dying to a virus, don't want it? Well then you accept the risk.

So what do you propose? If not everyone will get vaccinated then what ? Keep restrictions and tier systems in place? Remove them and bar wearing a mask places that is normal life. So either keep restrictions on place for years or vaccinate millions and return to normality.

No vaccine is 100% effective.
I think we're all aware of that.

So those who choose not to get it pose a small but definite risk to the majority of us who do.

If being vaccinated were compulsory that small risk would reduce still further.

Now that seems logical to me. Tell me I'm wrong.

If 30% didn't get the vaccine its very likely that some of those would be immune and some would have t cells which are still being researched. You also have to consider that the percentage of young people who get extremely ill is low. Removing 70-80% of potential carriers automatically improves the R value with no measures massively.

Fantastic news to see these 90 year olds getting vaccinated on the tv this morning. I hope that all pensioners do their bit, people of that age group need to do their bit. Everyone has wore masks for months to save pensioners.
