Problem with these current restrictions is you still get loads of pubs and restaurants that basically completely disregard the rules.

I heard of quite a few pubs who were allowing you to stay all night if you buy a meal. Surely it must be quite obvious that groups of 6 men in their 40s don't live together?

If people stuck to going with who they live with they might stay open but you can see how the virus ends up spreading. I went to our local at the weekend and it was well managed. In fairness it was basically empty so I doubt they are doing particularly well.

The problem is that in tier 2 you are not allowed to mix outside of those living together. So for a pub like ours with just ten tables the pub could be ‘full’ with just ten people plus two members of staff to pour and table serve. It’s a total non starter, never mind the substantial meal nonsense...so the majority of pubs simply will not open until either the rules are changed or they are put in tier 1......

Round here the majority of pubs are open but the rules are being disregarded. If pubs are open you'd think the rule of 6 should apply, a lot of people seem to be following that anyway.

There is always a flux of inpatients , especially during the winter. We have never changed anything over the winter months for example to try and alleviate that and from my own experience, arrow park was full new year in terms of people dying. It's a common thing to have this influx.

Or for a long time , again through personal experience the royal has ebbed and flowed from full capacity to less full. We get notifications (or did before march) on the level of bed space etc and at times the level was at red with an urgent call to discharge people.

People dying is very much a driving force. Sick people can recover from a virus but if people are dying from it, it creates a crisis that needs measures put in place.
What about all the overwhelmed ICUs worldwide e.g. Italy, USA etc. Doctors having to triage according to who's likelier to survive. Is that an annual occurence?

Listen, if covid wasn't killing anyone we wouldn't have locked the country down. There would just be more calls for alleviating stress on the NHS .

Being sick and dying from a virus are two completely different things. We are doing all of this to save lives, we wear masks to save a life we may pass the virus onto, not to stop someone just getting sick.

Doesn't make sense, unless I'm reading it wrong...

People don't have to die for the NHS to be swamped. People getting seriously ill, staying in hospital a month and then recovering have taken a bed for a month.

So we do this to stop as many people as possible getting sick, as that leads to stress on the NHS and then more deaths.

Or we are doing it to save lives because people suddenly starting dying in march.

There is always pressure on the NHS , even at times that you wouldn't think. It's been pointed out for years , the new royal was specifically designed in a way to combat pressure on the service in the city.

Pressure on hospitals isn't a new thing. People dying after being in critical condition is however.

Apart from the flu jab

Over 80% of hospital admissions for COVID are over 60s and they tend to require more urgent care. Once this group has been vaccinated hospitalization numbers will drop massively.

What's your point anyway? lol
