Don't large numbers of young kids get the flu jab? Its a different group of people in fairness.

I’m pretty sure the vast majority of those who get the flu jab are either over 60, work in the NHS, or are in an at risk group.
Not sure why you deem that to be a different group.

What's that got to do with anything now?
Will we have 14 million doses? Yes , in the coming months.
Until then we are still wearing masks , socially distanced, tier systems and in threat of locking down when it starts to build up.
The minute the vunerable are vaccinated , which is march the aim last I heard, then numbers will plummet and all of a sudden this will all be a bad dream.

Over 3m kids get a flu jab each year so its quite a decent percentage of the total.
Its still going to take a while to get the vaccinations done but the torys seem to think the highest priorities will be done before the end of January.
You do realise this is the tories you’re talking about..... they never stipulated which January lol
You seem to be conflating Covid with the flu.
Immunising the most vulnerable will not resolve this outbreak.
We will be living under restrictions of some kind for far longer than March.
Even the nobhead Hancock would only go as far as saying he hoped restrictions would be “loosened” by March. Hardly a great proclamation seeing as that would have happened in spring with or without a vaccine.

But it would significantly lower the number dying no? 90% of the total is 60 and over. So if those age groups were vaccinated then in theory the number dying would drop by anything up to 90% as they would then be protected against it from that point on.
If we reduce the risk of death by 90% in the population then that is a completely different picture than as of the last 9 months.
Restrictions of note will be in place until everyone can be vaccinated which will be months from now. After that point , there will be very little need for them as the threat of the virus has gone.
Flu and covid are completely different things, not sure what post suggested I was conflating them.
You said it would all seem like a dream once the vulnerable are vaccinated. That is not the case.
Besides, between 30 and 40 percent of Brits aren’t in favour of having the vaccine. That number will increase with age. Unless the government forces the vaccine on people there will be issues for months and years to come.

But to put it plainly so what?
If someone doesn't get the vaccine then the risk is on them, not us. Anything in life has this, it's not a new concept. Parents don't vaccinate kids , hence why we have outbreaks of viruses that should be confined to history.
Unless you think we should continue to have restrictions in place because a minority decide they don't need a vaccine then that is simply ridiculous. The majority of people will get the vaccine , same as the majority of people wear masks , socially distance and have not seen friends / family in months.
You can't compensate for stupid, once the vaccine is in the general circulation, that's it, no more of this restrictions or isolation or shutting businesses down. Otherwise this never ends.
If someone refuses the vaccine and then dies of covid then what difference is that to anyone listed in the Darwin awards, honestly?
Because no one knows how long immunity lasts, and nobody knows if the immune response is different from person to person (at least not to a concrete degree).
So if a bunch of arseholes don't get vaccinated, then the virus stays in constant transmission and can infect people when immunity drops off.

But they already know this , again it isn't an unknown factor.
There are already plans for revaccination for people. They know what the minimum length of time a re vaccination will be from the testing they have done. This has been tested to around 100000 has it not? The same figure used to model infection rates which govern the way the country is restricted during the pandemic. I hate to say it but if others pointed out to me 100k is a fine number for other things then it's a perfectly fine number for vaccine testing.
But like I say to Brennan, we still have tuberculosis despite it given to children every year. It took until the 70s to get rid of smallpox despite having a vaccine. None of this is unusual.
All of this has an end point. A back to normality line that the vaccine will bring.

Obviously we'll get back to near normality, hopefully by around June would be my guess, but even after that there will be precautions in place unless the vaccine take-up is much higher than it currently seems to be.
If the vaccine take-up was, say, 95%, we'd be back to normal completely by June IMO.
Unfortunately, people are stupid. I saw one viral video on WhatsApp/Facebook about fetal stem cells being in the vaccine and it can "change your DNA" - both claims disproven within 20 seconds if people bothered to fact check, but amazingly most people don't. They take it as read.

Mate there was a point that 5g was said to be a cause and people genuinely believed it. Spread enough false information and it becomes truth.

The government should be getting vaccinated on TV etc to show its not dangerous. Everyone over 60 who can take the vaccine need to get it within the next 60 days.
People who think vaccines are dangerous or a conspiracy aren’t going to change their mind because a politician on tv “takes the virus”.
