Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I was hearing on the news how Pfizer's vaccine needs to be stored at -70C in batches 1,000 and therefore it wouldn't be stored only at larger hospital sites.

They were running the story on how it would be incredibly difficult to logistically move it around to care homes, which they're still doing right now on BBC News.

Even though a Pfizer representative has just been on and stated that although it to be -70C for the first shipment, it can be split and kept in a fridge for 10 days.

Who needs facts when you've got your own narrative, aye?
The coverage about the vaccine storage is very confusing.

As I suspected and stated last Friday. This 'moving around' story is BS. IMO, it's designed to preserve a very small order of this vaccine for the NHS, and they're having to spin this story because the Oxford vaccine isn't anywhere near as efficacious as Pfizer or Moderna (and probably not even Sputnik), but that's the only one that will be administered to the vast majority in this country.

Again, this government has made a complete balls up of the vaccine to go along with their failure to lockdown early enough, failure to ensure enough PPE was there for the first wave, failure on trace and track testing, and failure on its tier system.

Mark my words, many people who can afford to shop around will do so and get hold of Pfizer's vaccine...by hook or by crook.

I don't think it is - all the stories, including the negative ones about Oxford, are probably the work of each pharmaceutical firms' PR teams. There is after all a huge pile of cash for the winner of this race.

There is a subtle difference between recommending people wear them and forcing people to wear them. As I said, people have a choice and if they want to that's fine. Equally, if they prefer not to then that's fine too.

As far as I'm aware, no other country make mask wearing compulsory (outside of medical pandemics like the current one) and I see absolutely no reason why we should be the first.
It was made compulsory in Victoria during our 2nd wave, from the moment you left your house, even if you were in a field on your own, its now been backed off, to indoors and where it is impossible to social distance. We are now 33ish days of no new infections, no deaths, and no active cases it is effectively eliminated at this point
