You're all over the place. Your argument was about the nature of the PRC and their system being authoritarian and centralised and that is why Covid19 got out of hand. The experts (the ones you linked us to) are telling you that governments per se will be in denial until it becomes a forlorn position and only then will they act. If you dont think that's true just look at the European governements faced with the evidence from China and then denied the coming storm would happen.

Stop digging and get out of the JCB.

No it wasn’t. I didn’t say anything about their response being a failure due to their political systems.

The only reference to the government’s authoritarian nature was pointing out that they could have easily shut down the wet markets if they wanted to as they have such control over society.

No mate we dont need convincing how badly the this govt have handled this mess.
But that does not exonerate the country that welded the doors of its citizens shut to stop the world seeing what was going on . But yet sent out footage of their troops sanitizing the streets doing their part to contain this virus.
They're governments. That's the point here. You seem to be under the impression I'm defending one.

You: "The virus originated in markets which followed shocking health and safety and food standards, yet the authoritarian government chose not to shut them down."

This is embarrassing.

Sooo this might go poorly given what I’m reading the last few pages, but I’ve yet to see a good explanation. What is it that’s so triggering about saying it’s a Chinese virus? The geographical origin has been used to name infectious diseases in the past and no one seems to care about those ones...Spanish flu (which may not have been true), West Nile virus...The media associated the coronavirus with China multiple times, but then once a certain politician did the same, it became horrible to do so.

Disclaimer: I understand it upsets people so I do just call it the coronavirus or covid, but I haven’t seen an explanation that makes it clear why saying it’s a Chinese virus is so upsetting. Just looking for some actual clarity here as to what makes this one so different.

You touch upon one version of the answer there, because trump said it. People hate trump that much that him saying it means everyone vigourously opposes it.

But it's part and parcel of today's culture of not offendng anyone as well. It's deemed racist to blame china for the virus for again many reasons that vary from person to person as to why. Even though it started there like you say, in this day and age , noone wants to upset the Chinese. (Which would be amusing if the virus was manufactured by them and everyone is trying not to offend them, but that's a conspiracy theory).

I just think it's a sign of the times now. If this was 1938, it would be 'racist' to call Germany a war faring nation because Hitler was Austrian. Anything that may offend, is outlawed. Even though naming china doesn't blame all 1 billions of them cumatively.

Well, Dave is the type of person who would seemingly defend Hitler if he was a communist.

Oxford vaccine 70% effective.
Just flashed as breaking.

Waiting for the "I wouldn't get on a plane that was only 70% safe. This vaccine should be ditched." takes from social media.

That said, it doesn't exactly fill one with confidence does it? "Made in Britain" lol

70% is actually a good result. For a portion of the trial it was 90% when giving a smaller initial dose.
Compared to the other two, this is far easier to store and distribute as well as being much cheaper.
This has the potential to save more lives than the other two.
Also, when more data is published it might be the case that the success is higher in certain age groups. This means that having multiple vaccines available to target different age groups.
