The start of the first wave in this country took about 6 weeks before we reached 1000 deaths a day, the second wave will probably reach 1000 deaths a day within a few weeks.

I find it hard to believe this strain of cov19 has been around for over 12months now.

I thought it was already common knowledge that some people had the virus last year? If it's only a few and they live by themselves or stayed in for the period of time then there is a chance they could have caught it on a business trip etc. and not passed it on to anyone else. It all went to pot when there was too many that had it.

If people really had this strain of Cov19 last year we would have seen thousands of deaths last year.

If anything it was a less deadly strain that was floating around last year.

I know loads of people who had terrible coughs and stuff in December, I had 1 myself that was horrific, but I dont think it was the Rona personally.
It does take time to spread as you know, some incubation periods can be up to two weeks. If, for talks sake, what I'm saying is correct then the deaths exponentially rising massively when they did makes sense from something that started kicking about around Xmas time. Isn't it also the same with flu season and it gets pretty bad in the new year. I don't know enough about it to say for sure, but I'm a healthy young man, a flu for me is a few days under the weather and back at it but whatever I had just before Xmas wiped me out completely for four weeks almost, as I said, and coincides with what that article is saying.

As ever it seems things are different by the second. The ‘qualifying’ criteria is what was laid out for us at work back in August, so god only knows now!
You’re correct and it’s still supposed to be the case. You should only go for a test if you have symptoms, even if you live with someone who has covid.

Another grim day on the figures front

Hospital figures - 384 deaths were announced today, up 183 on yesterday and up 51 on last Tuesday. 330 deaths were in English hospitals, up 140 on yesterday and up 30 on last week. The 7 day rolling average rises to 340.57

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 598 deaths were announced today, up 385 on yesterday and up 66 on last Tuesday. The 7 day rolling average rises to an even 425

For the 60 day cut off, 628 deaths were announced today, up 408 on yesterday and up 76 on last Tuesday. The 7 day rolling average rises to an even 446

There's been a pretty constant sound of sirens around me lately. I can't say for sure it is COVID related but I remember the stories from NY and I'm kind of worried it might be.

go on somehow I think I’ve missed this...
Basically just when COVID peaked in New York the first time people said the sirens of ambulances taking people to hospitals became a constant sound and where I am I've noticed that the last couple of days there have been way more sirens around my house than is typical. As I said it could be nothing but I'm just worried right now.

Hopefully it won't get to near 1000 this time. It seems to have risen a lot slower and cases seem to be stabilising. It still doesn't really seem to be dropping much though so who knows.

In trying to minimise the mortality rate of Covid as only ‘the same as seasonal flu’, Toby gets his maths wrong by a factor of 10, and provides data showing that Covid is 10 times as deadly as seasonal flu.

This is the problem with starting with your conclusion, and working backwards.

his tweet has now been deleted, but screenshot below.

Obviously right that he’s deleted it, as it was inaccurate, but will he revise or reconsider his opinion now he’s clearly aware of his mistaken position? Only time will tell...

...but the answer’s no.
