Not sure they will want 2 seperate periods,. Can see this 5 day thing from Christmas eve to the 28th being true. Think the Monday is the bank holiday cause Boxing day is a Saturday, so lots will be off that 5 day stretch.
I hope so. That would be perfect if I’m honest.

sounds like they will ease restrictions for 4 days over xmas from Xmas eve
Makes sense as Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on a weekend

I'd just do Christmas and boxing Day. Then new years eve and day.

Why is a lockdown Xmas being discussed when the current lockdown is until 2nd Dec?

Zero chance the lockdown ends on the 2nd December unfortunately. Possibly they might rename it or say its regional but if you live in a city its a full lockdown. The government have already started feeding information to their media friends.

Sky news had a segment tonight trying to shame people for saying they would see their family at Christmas.

And no one has a bleeding clue what then happens. Having thrown away (drank) a shedload of beer, we have to decide by next Wednesday what to order. We have no guidance of if we will be in a close down tier or an open tier. Yet we have to decide if we spend a fair amount of money on stock. We could bet that we won’t open and lose a great deal of money, or we could bet that we will and then have to drink the beer we buy. TBH, I’m torn between the two.......

I’m not a grinch, in fact I love Christmas. But the notion that providing the public with five days to enjoy ourselves sandwiched between restrictions is something to be cheered on is not one I can get on board with. I’m not going to be grateful because SAGE and Boris give the go ahead to actually see my family and friends, a lot of them people I basically haven’t seen all year. They have essentially turned vast swathes of the population into wage slaves with no personal freedom, no actual enjoyment from life and are now dangling the carrot of a few days off so we can have a little drink and watch the great escape. I can’t wait to see the “Christmas saved” headlines from certain publications.

The fact is they know people don’t give a toss so they’re pre-empting this to make it look like it’s all going to be done with their permission. When in reality the underlying message is “you want Christmas? Well you’re going to have to pay for it with restrictions after”.

Also I don’t agree with posters here speculating that we won’t revert to the tier system. If they don’t revert to the tier system on the 3rd of December, what exactly is the point of mass testing schemes like the one we have right now in Liverpool? I did my test, no problem. Community spirit and all that. But with all this talk of lockdown not ending/being extended I’m starting to think well what was the point? If case numbers drop, if hospitalisation decrease, if the infections per 100,000 continues to fall and we remain in lockdown then what actually is the point? There isn’t one: as no matter what we as the public do, it will not matter.

It’s not just about enjoying themselves though. I just want to *see* my family. I’ve seen them twice this year, one of those times was for 2 hours.

it’s hard to do that over a couple of days. Four days would be perfect.

I obviously don’t know your situation, or how important Christmas is to you but;

If this was true, it’s just not worth it in my opinion. Your mileage may vary.
