It'll be into the new year before we see these restrictions lifted. Schools will be added to them too.

End of the flu season could be the point its safe to release again.

Could well be correct, its very evident people are completely unawares how the NHS has been defunded over the last decade. It cant cope with getting caught out on getting the wrong Flu vaccination let alone brand new virulent virus such as COVID. Not sure what people were expecting. Hopefully, they have been good Tories and that money Cameron May and Johnson have been putting into everyone's pocket instead of the NHS etc. Has been saved and people can ride out any economic hardship that comes along.

The common myth. The NHS has plenty of money. It's just managed by greedy people and crooks.

True story this.

Back when labour gave the NHS extra funds , they didn't pump it all into healthcare. They created managers instead to the point where a lot of money even now is in management of something or other.

Our department being admin alone, with 5 depts to run of varying size of 40/30 to say 6 staff depending on the dept and their role has 7 senior management roles. Not including the likes of myself at office level , that takes you far higher .

There was jobs advertised not too long ago that was looking for general deputy and assistant managers for the same department! Most internal jobs are very high up and many lower jobs either don't get put back out for advert or put on hold.

There may be a funding issue much bigger than this on the medical side, but from NHS side, they did waste a lot of extra funding creating management roles that just weren't needed.

Saying that there is a lot of nepotism and hand picked roles within the non clinical service anyway , I only got lucky coming from an external recruitment at the time.

I don't think people are unaware - it's a major problem.

But every country in Europe is heading into some form of lockdown so it's not just us.

My mate lives in Amsterdam and they've been in lockdown for the past few weeks - he said the government over there are getting absolute pelters for it, because they've completely failed to get their track and trace up and running.

No excuse for our crapshow at all - I can't stand them - but, basically, it's not just us.

Anyways, I’m feeling pretty ropey, got a banging headache, fatigued and no appetite. I doubt I have Covid but may try and get a test just to be safe. The nearest test centre to me is a 2 hour round journey. Not sure how long the turn around is by post or how it works or whether there’s other options apart from paying. Any suggestions?

Literally exactly the same symptoms as I had mate.

There's a bug going round. Have you had a fever at all, or any loss of taste, cough etc?

The issue is, I only managed to get a test (I tested negative) because my housemate is a key worker and basically her NHS trust instructed me to.

Other than that, you have to lie on the online system to get through.

The other option for a free one is a home test. I'm not sure if it's the case where you are but a job I was going to be doing - i'm now not - was driving around delivering covid tests.

They have them in pretty much every area, but obviously capacity is an issue depending on town/city. My cousin is doing it atm and she's had some days where there have simply been no testing kits for her to deliver as demand is outstripping availability.

I believe this is how they're doing it to try and speed up the process, though.

I was ill basically for five days, with a break of day or two in between where I just had a bit of a sniffle. It's basically a flu going round but unless you can get a test it's obviously really difficult to be able to tell. I feel fine now.

Unfortunately, this is the case that a lot of older/vulnerable people who catch this bug may end up in hospital. It really knocked me for six on Thursday - fatigue like I've never had.

People could easily end up going into hospital with this and catching covid in there.

See my other post about the new job thing, but the money the NHS are pumping into that is mental.

It's through a private contractor (Star Recruitment) too.

The pay is basically £22k pro-rata for six months (so £11k) base salary for 5 days a week work (and as I said, if the tests aren't there, people don't work and still get paid - great for people like my cousin who need the work, though!).

On top of that, there is £450 a month of car allowance for the people doing it as they are using their own vehicle, plus mileage.

Now, that's all getting paid directly from the contractor (Star). So imagine their margin on their deal with the NHS!

This is the big problem, a normal cold is so similar.

My missus had a scratchy throat and a bit of woolly head for three days and didn’t think anything of it, it was only when her taste / smell went on day four she knew she had it.

The best way she described it, was like a hangover with a heavy head cold ?

Whatever this bug going round atm is it's like your entire body just aches, mate.

You feel absolutely drained, banging headache and massive pains in the neck, at least for me.

It comes and goes, too. You can feel absolutely fine and then 5 minutes later you want to pass out. It's rough, whatever it is.

But, at least with this one, there's no fever or cough. So I suppose if it is Covid the symptoms might develop later, like your wife said.

@JimmyJeffers if you can't get a COVID test, the best thing to do might be to hold on for a few more days. If your symptoms go, you've probably got this bug/flu. You might be out of it for a day or two but after a run of five/six days it seems to clear up. If you don't get any better or develop other symptoms, then it might be COVID?

Without a test it's just gonna be a massive problem for so many people.

Just bad Tory WUM rhetoric.

People will carry on as they are because frankly nothing has changed. It's a mockdown not a lockdown. Apart from hammering the hospitality sector again, they've done little to stop the current trend of increasing cases and deaths.

After watching Gove this morning and constant tweaking on what can open in this mockdown they know full well what they've announced won't make much difference to the figures over the next few weeks.
