Metaphors for the virus going endemic. Which on the one hand I'm thankful for as the soup explanation is gross, but the result they're describing is concerning. We're not living in a game of Plague Inc. as the more alarmist seem to think, but we're reaching the point where it's getting hard to see this getting quashed and contained as SARS and MERS were.

What is being done. Globalization has put us in a position where, crazy as it sounds on its face, going much further to try to quash this is likely to cause more misery and death than the spread of this disease. Shut down the flow of pharmaceuticals from India and China, and cardiac and psychiatric patients alike (just to name two categories, one more obvious than the other) will die. Cut off all air travel, and you're quickly moving towards a worldwide economic depression.

I don't recall "pandemic" coming up once in all of the counter-globalization arguments (some more valid than others) I've read over the last 25 years, probably because the risk seemed so remote as to be a paranoiac argument, but here we are.

I suppose you are right. If the world is so inclined to have at its disposal a malleable and efficient global labour market, then this would be the equivalent bout of office flu.

Yes I meant as an individual. I cannot not touch my eyes, nose and mouth. I suppose I could wear gloves but then the hand washing?

If the isolation, as directed, was working effectively, they wouldn't get infected.

I’m not a health professional so I’ll defer to those that are, @RAFUH, but from what I’ve read to date the regular handwashing, whilst being far from a panacea, is better than wearing gloves for your average person.
