Technically not the flu. Whole different family of virus, but being pedantic aside, the flu kills thousands, every year with a vaccine available.
Reading your posts you seem to work in healthcare, if you don't you seemed pretty clued up, have you seen anyone suggest that it's a pandemic yet? Some of the planning assumptions in the UK have used pandemic flu arrangements and people are certainly being asked to review pandemic plans, but almost everything I've seen so far has been towards management as you might a community outbreak, such as measles.

WHO, CDC, NHS etc have not officially declared a pandemic, but the definition is vague...wide spread in high numbers.
New cases are trending down so I can see them holding off and monitoring the trend.

I hadn’t realized the new cases trend was down.

Just read this now.

I take it you are all aware that this couple have both tested positive for the virus and, being elderly, are also in the high risk category. But hey, they are just Tory scum so that doesn't matter then. With any luck it'll be 2 less people to vote Tory at the next general election.

And any of that has anything to do with me how?

Get an update from Richard Branson, he will save them. ;)

The new cases trend is totally driven by Hubei. This introduces a couple of problems - it tends to obscure what's happening elsewhere, and do you believe the numbers coming out of China? The fatalities they've been reporting are very high given the number of reported new cases, and they keep altering how they're keeping score on new cases (very possibly for political reasons).

You politicised it with your voting Boris in for entertainment comment.

Would you have made some glib comment had the guy been a labour voting scouser?. I very much doubt it and why on earth should you.

The fact is it was a cry for help from somebody who is now in a position where they could very easily die in the next few days.

I'm fairly sure that David Abel introduced politics into it by declaring himself a 'Staunch Tory'..

and its not the first british national boris johnson has abandoned and failed, but it is the first time its affected Mr Abel. Hope he and his missus make a full recovery and have had their eyes opened to just how little this government care about them

I don’t disagree. Just saying while the reported trend is as it is, the powers that be are unlikely to proclaim a pandemic.

That said the recent large increase in US cases was driven by the fact we moved 14 known infected patients to the US. So our number is higher, but doesn’t affect total or new cases.

He said himself he voted Tory... :)

The smile was for your ridiculous post... :)
You're embarrassing really.

You make some glib political comment about some old guy who very well may die of the illness in the next few days, and rather than hold your hand up and say you regret your comments given what has developed, you decide to make light of them instead.

We all say things we regret and a sign of character is when you are able to hold your hands up and say you got it wrong. Unless you don't believe you got it wring in which case my original post is spot on.
