Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

It really all boils down to no country or their advisors having any idea how to get out of this after seven months.
As the saying goes, sometime people can't see the wood for the trees. Here in Europe, the only really proven way to limit the spread of the virus are restrictions.

The tiered approach can arguably be seen to have an impact or at least in Tier-3, but the real catalyst for a reduction was the sharp March or April lock down.

Unless something as effective and viable is suggested, I can't see much else they can do because we simply can't have the death rates like we did back then.

That's not ignoring how other countries have been able to successful manage the virus, like South Korea, but even the much heralded Germany is very worried.

The more and more I think about it, I can't help but think cultural norms and beliefs in certain countries, including our, must play a part in its spread.

No.

Football is continuing in France.
Strange situation here. Cafés bars restaurants and many shops have to close
But people are allowed to go to work, lycées and colleges open, universities closed.
All travel to the above plus medical appointments etc are allowed but we have to fill out a self certified permit.
The only people really inconvenienced are those who are retired and not working. Apart from the above we are only allowed to go for walks upto 1km from home and be out for 1 hour.
Fines of 135EUR apply for contravention.
In my view this is the Herd thing by the back door.
Let less vulnerable folk get on with things (with precaution) and lock away the old and feeble.
So neo con right wing Macron is finally getting right wing policies applied.
There's going to be trouble at'mill.

This Christmas will be the first one for a long time where no-one will call me a miserable tw@t for refusing to wear a novelty Christmas jumper.

In times like these you have to find the positives in unlikely places.

I must admit it’s the first one I’m looking forward too for years, as there’ll be no parasitic drunken inlaws.

Actually, the vast majority of the evidence shows that infections in younger children reflect levels in the community rather than amplify levels. It's only really as they enter their teens that they spread it significantly.

I know reasoned arguments aren't as much fun as mindless rants, but there's a reasoned argument to be made for closing universities and colleges but leaving primary schools open. Secondary schools are a tougher call.
Rotating one week in school and one week at home was an idea some countries tried earlier in the year which I thought had some promise given what we know about infection timelines.

Now deleted, I wonder why ?
