I wasn’t addressing the wider issues though; I asked purely for a learning point of view.

Online learning for most kids is a complete waste of time. That’s the ones that even bother doing it.

The kids from poor / chaotic homes are the ones who suffer the most.

Parents not arsed, cramped household, limited or no access to a computer or quite simply the kid can’t be arsed.

The schools do their best, but you may as well write off the weeks they’re away from school for most kids.

Really can't see them shutting non essential shops before Christmas. I reckon pubs, restaurants and gyms.

Then opening pubs a week before Christmas will be carnage. What a mess.

Christmas is cancelled, they aren't going to admit it at this stage but this lockdown will be on until February at the earliest. Its not even winter yet and the NHS is struggling, no chance they reopen in December.

But surely they’re used to have 6+ weeks off over Summer and however many for half-terms, Christmas etc. Is a 4 week block that bad for them? There’s lots of home learning being done now too.
Returning after summer is the same!

But seriously, it was nearly 4 months?. I forget now. But it was the stress and shock of what's happening that mainly affected the youngest..

Does missing/delaying a month of school really hamper development that much? It’s hardly like they’re near exam time right now. Seems a bit unnecessary to me to keep them open.

But are workplaces going to let their workers have the time off to look after the kids? Do we have a furlough scheme like before? It’s all very easy just saying shut the schools but without the financial support how’s it possible this time round?

Well vast majority will be working from home in a full lockdown won’t they?

I agree with all that, but perversely the highlighted part is wrong. Exemptions were made to allow for childcare including, well especially, elderly grandparents.

So the generation who we’re trying to protect were almost expected to shoulder the childcare responsibility, which put them at an increased risk.

I’m not sure why it never actually received further questioning in the press.

Not having a go here but why would it? Its not like the British Press has done any actual, meaningful questioning at all during this crisis, or previous crises - they've just lied and boosted charlatans even though its blatantly obvious they are effectively killing people by doing it.

We are getting hammered by his virus because we have an incompetent government, and because previous incompetent governments have trashed the safety nets that were meant to provide some level of protection when disasters happened. This is the end result.

There’s a second spike in terms of infections without the same level of hospitalisations or deaths thanks to a higher level of testing. The observer/Hawthorne effect is very much in play.
i think we perhaps treat it better than we did too.
the real issue is overload, however.
as soon as critical care is overwhelmed (purely through numbers), I expect the death rate to spike too.

I can well believe that Kids cope well in structure and routine, its stressful for them to leave the usual whether that be home or school. Some kids cope well in adversity other kids cope differently and need different support.

The other thing is the subliminal anxiety and stressful changes kids are exposed to. Kids have no filter and you can imagine some of the stories in schools around Covid, kids arent naturally allowed interact, separated at play , distance, washing your hands etc.

It all leads to subliminal insecurity and anxiety for some kids. Home is safe, you can understand that. For kids in my opinion there are so many stresses both obvious and subliminal around at the moment, that makes more sensitive or emotionally intelligent kids very stressed and anxious. Its all new in terms of their ongoing development, they are going through something now at a formative stage none of us have had to encounter growing up.

Holloween being cancelled and narrative soon around being Xmas being canceled wont help.

The positive is we have brazen populist in Johnson as prime minister of the UK, so u-turning on lockdown will be simple in England, then again not feeding hungry children has been unpopular, so take your chances with this charlatan.

Lucky ones will be. But how can you work from home and simultaneously look after three primary school aged children for example? What if the company people work for is less accommodating this time round or if you the worker has no more holidays to take (after exhausting them first time round). Take unpaid leave maybe but then struggle to pay bills. A second lockdown is not going to be like the first in terms of support from both the government or employers.

It’s something I’ve been really conscious of with my 7 year old. It’s been a really tough year and she’s grown up a lot quicker than she would have done I think. You can’t shield them from everything and she found the transition from lockdown to back to school really tough. there were changes to her behaviour, she stopped sleeping, separation anxiety. Lots of things you would expect.

Shes inquisitive and bright and was asking a lot of questions about topical stuff (including COVID, cancer, the plague, BLM, BREXIT) but also stuff like Father Christmas and God.

I didn’t really expect to be having those kind of conversations with her so soon. She handled it all really well but in my mind she’s very young to be dealing with those things, particularly all at once.
