Think it’s more about the government not realising that their ‘delay’ phase tactics probably weren’t going to delay, but accelerate the spread of the virus and put an even more enormous strain on the NHS than there will be. The herd immunity tactic seemed to almost completely disregard any attempt to slow down the spread other than through basic hand washing. It is clear now that more drastic measures are needed to slow everything down, otherwise the country will completely fall apart due to lack of medical facility.

there was no delay phase tactics though (even though they called it delay phase); they wanted 60% of the population to have caught this by the summer

baffles me, that - you'd think with talk of a lockdown people would be taking crates and cases of wine home with them but instead its bog roll and pasta

There is just no passing trade, people aren't popping in after work. I was in a John Lewis today and it was so quiet.

Exactly. It is just a matter of time before we’re following the actions of Italy, Spain, France etc, but it will be far too late, and telling everyone it’s alright because we’re three weeks behind Italy is neglectful.

People should stop being judgemental towards people who are leaving the house and going about their lives as normal.

I know at least 5 people, thankfully in their 30's, who have had symptoms in the last few days. It's ramping up so everyone needs to be careful, but you can leave your house.

Yeah, there’s fine line towards still living your life and being irresponsible, but people can still leave the house and carry on with a degree of normality.

Until a lockdown is confirmed what are people going to do.

Obviously if you or someone you have been in contact with have symptoms get yourself isolated. That goes without saying.

I did a lot of research on the pub trade before buying our pub, the one thing that struck me more than anything was how the brewer owned pubs screwed the Landlords on the way in, stitched them up while in situ, then screwed them again on the way out. Being private and Freehold, the brewers give us massive discounts and try to do everything they can to help, in the full knowledge that we can simply go to other brewers, who will do similar.....

My local is a Punch Pub, however his stock trade is real ale and he always has six on - 3 regulars beers and 3 changing guest beers from all over the country.

Due to the way things have gone, as from yesterday he`s had to let the guest beers go and just stick with his 3 regular beers.

If you knock that on to the whole country, that`s a lot of beer from little breweries / micros that is not getting drunk.

In a week he`s lost 2/3 of his trade, the Pubco`s simply have to help the tied publicans out, as if lots of pubs go under, the likes of Punch, which has only very recently come out of self inflicted hard times, could go under too.

Your local cafe, bar, pub and restaurant will probably have insurance against loss of earnings if they're forced to close, which would help cover coronavirus.

Yet, the government aren't saying that bars etc. should close, but rather recommending that people simply keep away thus the onus is on the owners to decide.

They may do.

Insurance companies do still use the old 'act of God' excuse too, though.

While I'm sure your right, mate, I also don't blame the gov for not wanting to go into full lockdown mode just yet. They probably don't see it as sustainable for any longer than 2-3 weeks. So they're trying to put it off and instead are asking people for a common-sense approach (I was gonna go to the pub tonight to meet friends but just stayed in, for example).

There's loads of factors in play here.

Also got a bit confused by people criticising the gov for seemingly not saying everyone has to work from home. Well, of course they can't say that. It's impossible. Not everybody CAN work from home. A lot can and I'm sure they now will be doing, but not everyone.

Weird thing was, of the people I saw being critical, I know one of them is a delivery driver. So how on earth can he expect to work from home?

Schools in NI are one by one ignoring UK advice to remain open in the face of Southern schools already being closed. It was a ludicrous political decision to expect schools a mile apart to listen to conflicting government guidance.

I expect most schools will shut in the week proceeding the planned Easter break.

So in two weeks.
