They protect you if the majority are wearing them.

And masks aren't 'so important' as much as washing hands and discussing but they are in specific circumstances extremely useful at reducing spread.
And the majority are wearing them.

That's the thing, the majority of people do wear them. You wear them, I wear them, probably everyone on here wears them.

I go out and nearly everyone I see wears masks. Many wear masks outside of shops, hell I do if there is a crowd of people to walk through.

This whole mask thing is a myth. People are wearing them when they are told to, by a majority and by the sounds of it further south you go that majority grows.

Either make them mandatory outside of the home or accept this is what we have. After all, how many have even downloaded the app?

But then if masks are so important to curbing cases , I've always asked why aren't they compulsory everywhere outside the house where they would be most effective. On spot fines for not wearing a mask and you get everyone wearing them then.
Maybe they should.
When I say anti maskers, what I really mean is the let's do what we want types, the conspiracy theory idiots, the it's not real, its just flu morons.
We have a big problem with them around Liverpool, they think they are anti government and dont wear a mask because they dont want to be told what to do.
The actual mask itself, theres more to it I.know, but while the government are a disaster local people are responsible for there own actions, sadly there are plenty that are making it worse then it has to be.

The cleaning in my gym has been extremely strict and well enforced.

Closing a place of exercise as we go into the winter is complete madness during a health crisis. I will be genuinely pretty upset if mine closes again. I'm working at home all day so its great to get out of the house in the evening and have some actual human interaction.

Plus its obviously important to exercise and the government should be actively encouraging it at this time.

I'm thoroughly fed up hearing people demanding stuff be closed. They have zero grasp of the effect on people's lives or the pressures of losing your job. Its been 7 months, this cant go on.
The gym and casinos I dont understand, they arnt that busy.

I see a lot wearing them - wearing them correctly is a different story.

Lewis Goodall (@lewis_goodall) Tweeted: I‘m told that Merseyside council leaders have asked for the scientific advice behind the govt’s imminent decisions and they haven’t seen it. They also haven’t been shown the full list of planned closures, or details of threshold for different tiers of potential exit strategies.

Disgraceful. Yet people will jump on the bandwagon of blame because they’ve seen a few people not wearing masks.

We’ve done our part back in spring. The government aren’t keeping to their side of the bargain and they’re showing contempt to a part of the country they’ve never cared about anyway.

Good read for all the 'just protect the elderly and let everyone go on as normal' brigade

Particularly scathing of the Great Barrington declaration.

"On herd immunity, the current estimate of people who have been infected by the virus in the UK is around 8%. To get to herd immunity we would need around 70% of the population to have been infected with the virus. Not only are we a huge way off this but we now know that immunity to COVID-19 decreases over time, and that people can be re-infected with the virus".

Seems to just be our region according to the BBC, what a joke considering other regions like Nottingham have a much worse up tick of infections

The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather not do it.

Months into this and this what the government have to keep us safe. It’s a joke. Seriously we must be one of the most docile populations in the world that we allow these morons to get away with incompetence over and over again. Not only that; they flip the script and explain away their own inadequacies by blaming the public. They’re a disgrace and it’s an absolute embarrassment.

What is it you want to see happen now?

The way forward is clear enough to me: we lock down and then release again (while keeping vigilant and tracking and tracing) next spring and we wait for the series of vaccines which are almost sure to materialise.

Other societies have got this right, so anyone believing this cant be controlled is a gullible fool, a "libertarian" or a Tory. All three are reprehensible.
