Pubs will be closed but restaurants and cafes, including those who sell alcohol, will more likely face some restrictions. Everything else will be the same.
Let's see what happens on the restaurants. They may stay open under some circumstances, they may close. But they will be closed begfore long. They are incubators as much as any pub is. And if they are allowed to sell alcohol there'll just be a stampede to them and they'll try and explout that and exacerbate the crisis there.

SHUT THEM DOWN. KEEP THEM SHUT.

The 1918-1920 outbreak was the H1N1 virus, the same virus which caused the 2009 swine flu pandemic, so it's fair to compare the two to see how far medical science has come. Estimates of up to 50,000,000 dead worldwide 100 years ago vs. 280,000 11 years ago. Almost two hundred times the number.

God only knows how bad things would have got if COVID hit the world a century ago.

same strain but totally different viruses. Spanish Flu attacked the healthy and young, which allowed the spread to go further and cause more death.

I had Swine flu, it wasn't pleasant.. but older people had immunity to it presumabley because of Spanish flu so it didn't kill the old

What's your view on schools and universities? The data, from I've seen, would suggest that both these are currently large contributors in the Merseyside region.

shouldn't really be a need to shut restaurants, kind of get bars but restaurants should be easy to distance and stop social mixing.

Watching Andrew Marr.. the MP'S just don't have a clue. He is challenging on the evidence for shutting bars etc and they just don't have any

Fake News. People from care homes were still being sent to hospital.

There's reports of care homes grabbing COVID discharges because they'd get paid £1500 for taking them in. I notice your ire at people making money didn't extend to the scumbags running that sector.

The initial clearance of wards was carried out on the orders of the NHS Chief exec too - https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...-nhs-hospital-discharges-deaths-a9544671.html

Badly run organisations getting away with murder.
....and then sent back to care homes again to spread their virus.

Dont insult me or others with your New Speak BS.

...Liverpool in particular is a massive student town and reliant on them spending cash. That has to be a key driver here.

They should never have been allowed to start their new semesters. Never.

Schools: 800 kids last week alone were sent home from Liverpool schools. They need shutting too.

My agenda is to keep people safe. I am happy to own up to that.

My conscience is clear. *Others* need to look to themselves.

No, it’s all about political point scoring, nothing more nothing less.

Hence your gargantuan flip flopping from “ it’s all a media conspiracy “ to where you are now.

You don’t speak for anyone other than yourself.

So, a full lock down in the Merseyside region?

All well and good saying shut the schools/universities/colleges and make lessons remote, but what if kids at school come from families that can’t afford laptops or home computers with webcams? How are they meant to continue their education?

They should be provided with equipment. This was promised 6 months ago but never materialised.

My school has now purchased a laptop to loan every pupil who needs one. God knows how they've fit that one into the budget but needs must.

Something I haven't heard mentioned when people talk about hospitalisations, but don't we have all these emergency 'nightingale' hospitals still up and running? If so why are people getting so alarmed about hospitalisations? There really isn't any capacity issues.
Capacity is an issue in hospitals every winter. Hospitals don't have spare capacity to deal with large numbers of people. We have one of the lowest of beds per 100,000 in the world and generally run at 93-95% capacity in Winter.

ICU occupation runs normally around 90%+ every winter. Many Trusts in winter run at OPEL level 3+4, particularly those in cities. Which, coincidentally is where you're likely to see greater pressures from Covid19.

On your secondary point, if you typically staff hospitals at low bed numbers why do you need staff resource to cater for numbers double and triple that figure? And if you then need to increase that resource to triple normal capacity, where does that trained staffing resource come from at short notice?
