Yes. They're only open because it was a trial of strength for Johnson.

No, they’re open because virtually every parent wants their kid to be in school receiving an education.

The potential future of our young people is already gloomy enough, without making it worse.

And don’t give me the online learning rubbish, as for most kids it’s a complete waste of time.

I don’t know one single parent that doesn’t want their child to be in school and that includes my crazy mate who hasn’t set foot outside of his house for 7 mths.

SHUT THEM DOWN.

I’ve banned my daughter (teacher) from coming for her Sunday scran. Hope she will be ok if she catches it but already a couple of the school groups have been isolated. SHUT THEM DOWN, was that loud enough?

I personally think they should be open, shielding makes sense going forward. Will a vaccine happen within a year?

No they are open because schools are good for kids and even the best remote learning is no substitute.

99% of parents want their kids in school and any decision by Johnson to close them again would be a disgrace.
Same argument in principle applies to this as to the reopening of the economy: it's epidemiological consequences v educational development.

I happen to think people becoming very ill and dying trumps educational needs. It's older kids who socialise more rather than primary school kids that's the issue. That was always going to push the R number up (along with the long run effects of leaving pubs and restaurants open).

We're either serious about saving lives or we're not. You cant have both...you cant have your cake and eat it too.

Looking back at the numbers the Spanish Flu killed- was it just normal flu or was it some roided up strain thats never been seen since?

I think it was unique in that it mainly smashed the crap out of people in their prime years, 20-40 year olds. It took a sort of perverse advantage of people with healthy immune systems and hypercharged them

One of the things Covid has demonstrated, is that at the moment we are just not prepared for that kind of pandemic if it ever happened again. The population, in general, seems incapable of following even basic guidelines or instructions and the legions of armchair scientists that can now communicate and obfuscate at a moment's notice hurts our ability to react to these things. Although I imagine the same knobheads would be a little more careful if they thought their own life was at risk
