What am I not getting, couldn't that graph just suggest to that there's possibly a one week lag?

It was based on the presumption the virus could accelerate from the point in time he gave the info, based on current figures. It was never at all likely. There was no need to show that graph beyond scaremongering, which is bizarre as people already have enough to be scared about with this.

They could have just told the truth.

Yeah, but to date, isn't there only a week displacement between the predicted and actual?

What Vallance and Whitty did in that news conference was deeply irresponsible.

Scare people with facts if you can - don't just make crap up if you can't. If you constantly go with worst case scenario and the reality gets nowhere near that and never could have got near that, then the public tune out.

It's the "boy who cries wolf" scenario.

When did he come out with that though? The rule of 6 was only brought in mid September off the back of what they said I thought, so likely that has helped keep it down.

A worst case scenario does what it says on the tin. It's unlikely to be that high but off the back of that, policy has been amended to help.

No Dave, I think you`ll find that it was only you and by the way, how are you paying for it ?

Other than your Morning Star, there doesn`t appear to be anything at all that brings you any enjoyment.

Your life would appear to be full of nothing but bitterness and resentment.

He constantly mentions and wants to speak for the 2.5 million vulnerable people. How many of these people does he actually know? I work with clients, some have chronic health issues and the prospect of shielding for months on end is potentially mental torture for them. However I can completely accept and also know people who have continued to shield and want to continue doing so. Crazy that isn’t it, imagine living in a society where you can have a choice.

I’m sure the defenders of the vulnerable would place the dissenters under house arrest and barricade them in if necessary as seen in the paradise of the people’s republic of China. The “do as I say pleb I know best” attitude constantly on display here is so tiresome.

It was during his infamous press conference a few weeks ago.

Even at the time mate, that graph was ridiculous and presented as an actual scenario.

That's not the point - it's about giving figures that aren't believable.

It might eventually reach that point a month later than he predicted, but so what - it's a month later - the steep gradient of that line would have been a lot different if he showed the real graph, and the public would have took it more seriously.

That's pretty much precisely what the chart looks like in Czech. It's not beyond the realms of possibility if nothing is done to stop any increase.

I am one of those, as in I am keeping Mrs R safe, and I want folk to live as normal a life as possible. I enjoy seeing folk in pubs and that when I make my daily trip for food/meds, and as long as I keep safe, (which I do), then all good. Need a dose of personal responsibility sometimes.

The 2.5 million vulnerable people he claims to care about, is just one more thing he`s chosen to use an excuse to try and get his extreme message across.

Both my missus and eldest lad have had this and my youngest lad is in an at risk group, so unlike him and his manifesto, I’ve experienced this first hand.

My youngest lad needed shielding and probably will do again and I certainly don’t need some extremist fruitcake claiming agenda driven faux concern for him or my family lol

That's like Patel's weird missive against "dogooders", as though "dobadders" is somehow something to aspire to. Damn you for defending the vulnerable :whip:

Unfunnily enough the other argument is also tiresome.

You don't get a binary choice whether you want the virus or not as you can't shut yourself off from all human contact 100%. These people rely on others, more virus in circulation means you are playing Russian roulette. They could be going to the doctors and because you have sprained an ankle in your crowed gym/pub whatever and unluckily picked up the virus and passed it on due to a carefree attitude.

If the government could get away with opening everything they would. The data shows that it's impossible, when positive new data comes along that supercedes that we'll move on.

As that wasnt covered on Talksport, Telegraph sports section, nor the Telegraph crossword, I havnt a clue what she said!

Mate, all I can see is that the official data follow the predicted trajectory roughly with a week lag, it may not continue exponentially, and hopefully won't.
