It’s also a viewpoint which no matter what people try and say is shared by actual experts in their field.

Of course any rational discussion gets shot down with “final solution” hyperbole.
I just don't get it man.

It's almost like people don't want to hear anything but total fear and negativity about things. People dismiss everything except the death number and then still argue against evidence of who that number is.

Care homes remain open and their staff can flit around spreading the disease merrily. Same with the harbingers staffing the hospitals. Time to start making these staff stay put in their places of work or put them in jail. Infection rates would plummet in a week.

Rather than spav all that money on 'eat out to spread it about'. That money could have gone to structure something serious around such an idea, have two weeks rotations, testing before and after, financially reward those willing... Instead we have to bail out Tim Martin and co...

For a price anyone can get a vaccine, that's how it works normally. Before I moved to my current job if I wanted the flu shot I could, if I paid for it. But this isn't a flu shot, it's life and death , or at least that is how it's made out to be.

The ones who need shielding are the ones who have a greater risk of dying. Because that is what all of this is about, not infection rates ,or long covid, or furlong , it's that death total that is dictating how the world manages the virus. So if you have literally a majority of people over a certain age who are losing their life to a virus then it isn't hard to pick out who needs to be protected more than others.

But also two words for you

Free will

I know through the family of a 80 something fella who enjoys going the pub. He will continue to keep going the pub despite knowing the risk of doing so. There will be many more like him up and down the country , you may even know one.

So put all your sheilding and protections in place. But if someone still wants to go out , LET THEM! they are adults , they know the risk.

You all must think I'm advocating locking people up! I'm advocating supporting those who will probably die leaving the house due to covid 19. If they still want to go out then that's on them. Same as those who won't get the vaccine when offered , you take the risk.
You keep mentioning the flu shot like it's some special shot thats limited. Its available too all in nearly every country and although not mandatory its strongly advised by governments that all ages get it. Except those with obvious conditions that it will harm more.

Also like you said the flu shot is not a covid vaccine. So it is not relatable on terms of distribution and cost etc... So its not even a good example.

Maybe if some of the mouth breathers in this thread took it a bit more seriously you wouldn't have to lock up your parents.

The problem is we don't get to a point where the vulnerable are not at risk from this, until we get a vaccine. That's why there are no simplistic answers to any of this. It won't just disappear even if people were more sensible.

Although we are long past the stage where people want to be sensible, so a second lockdown is just a ridiculous idea and wouldn't work. We have to find ways to look after those in need, but without stopping the young from going about normal life.

Yeah, they sound great. The two British doctors mentioned are a doctor who's more famous for being a comedian and a doctor who writes for right wing rags like the S*n, Express and Mail.

Dangerous fools AKA libertarians wear white coats too.

So all pubs and restaurants are to close in Scotland.

I never thought I’d see the day that I’d say well done to Sturgeon..

She's leading the way.

I fully expect the pubs and restaurants to be shut here soon too. It's a scandal we have soaring infection rates and hosptalisation rates and these incubators are being allowed to brazenly trade.

SHUT THEM DOWN; KEEP THEM SHUT.

Why isn't it a good example? It will be distributed to the same demographics as the covid vaccine will.

It's absolutely a good example.

Here's an article from 2 weeks ago (September 22nd) where this professor I quote above and 31 others write to the government and question the value of the government's restrictions and their aims - from the Daily Mail .

The letter said measures should be focused on protecting vulnerable people rather than everybody.

Elderly people and those with serious medical conditions are most at risk, the researchers said, and policies could be tailored to protect them better.

'Our view is that the existing policy path is inconsistent with the known risk-profile and should be reconsidered,' they said.

'The unstated objective currently appears to be one of suppression of the virus, until such a time that a vaccine can be deployed.

'This objective is increasingly unfeasible... and is leading to significant harm across all age groups, which likely offsets any benefits.

'Instead, more targeted measures that protect the most vulnerable from Covid, whilst not adversely impacting those not at risk, are more supportable.

'Given the high proportion of Covid deaths in care homes, these should be a priority. Such targeted measures should be explored as a matter of urgency, as the logical cornerstone of our future strategy.'

Trump getting the virus is perhaps also a good indication of how strict lockdown type rules aren't infallible like people imagine them to be. Everyone that interacts with President Trump has to be tested daily for coronavirus and get a negative result. Yet the President, even with all these protocols and protections in place, still got it.

I just don't get it man.

It's almost like people don't want to hear anything but total fear and negativity about things. People dismiss everything except the death number and then still argue against evidence of who that number is.

The vaccine will be rolled out to who needs it the most. It will be prioritised. The vaccine task force literally stated that this virus is more of a threat to certain demographics than others and that the actual vaccine could carry more risk to certain groups than the virus itself. So the experts are analysing this from a social, demographic perspective. But when you do that in here it’s forbidden for some reason.

Lockdowns on the other hand are for everybody. There is no other way around this apparently.

I can happily listen to (and still disagree with) anyone who says we need general lockdowns as shielding a certain section of society is impossible to do so. I may not agree but I can understand that position.

However we have now reached a point where saying “hey; this seems to really hit the elderly a lot harder than people under 40, maybe we can use that data to come up with some alternative solution to a blanket lockdown” is seen as a controversial and abhorrent statement.

Furthermore in order to argue the case for general lockdowns the focus is now on “long Covid”. When you point out that all viruses can cause long term health complications this is ignored.

Alasdair Munro (@apsmunro) Tweeted: @kevinsmith_tcnc People who work in infectious diseases recognise there is not much special about SAR-CoV-2 except that no one had immunity to it

If evidence over time is scientifically gathered demonstrating that enough people suffer with long term (meaning actual months not a few weeks after a virus) after effects then maybe those at the vaccine task force will change their way of thinking as well and feel the need for mass vaccination. Until that happens then a debate around whether or not lockdowns should be demographically based is fair and justified.

NI’s Chief Medical Officer at the Govt briefing just now said that we are in the lag period and 2 weeks off what hospitalisation numbers were in March. Further restrictions are to be placed on the Province tomorrow, likely to align us with South of Ireland.

The British doctors may have been on TV but they have an actual medical degree just like the other 60+ doctors that are referenced in the article.

I'm guessing you never use the NHS if you think all doctors in white coats are fools.

Let’s have a look at the main signatories shall we...

Dr. Martin Kulldorff, professor of medicine at Harvard University, a biostatistician, and epidemiologist with expertise in detecting and monitoring of infectious disease outbreaks and vaccine safety evaluations.

Dr. Sunetra Gupta, professor at Oxford University, an epidemiologist with expertise in immunology, vaccine development, and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases.

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, professor at Stanford University Medical School, a physician, epidemiologist, health economist, and public health policy expert focusing on infectious diseases and vulnerable populations.

VERSUS

Dr. Davek, regular poster, CCP spy, played the game like a young Glen Hoddle (his words not mine), bicycle and Lycra enthusiast. Did I miss anything?
