It's getting bad again in hospitals. Like "can't do emergency cases because all your anaesthetists are stuck in A&E intubating people" bad- hope it's just a bad weekend. If not, Boris has already said there'll be no second lockdown and that could be catastrophic...
Reportedly, the local COVID wards are 2/3 full and ICU is now over 50%, so capacity is dwindling again, but it will with a rate of over 350 per 100,000.

It'll be the day after we get a cure for cancer

8 years is the average vaccine takes to get to mass market, many people chuckled in health and social care when Johnson announced by Christmas 2020 earlier this springtime. Then factor in flu vaccination which is round average 43% effective. The sooner we live with this better... And to be honest money and the will won't really be looking into the curing vaccination, it will be in management of the illness, that's where the smart investors will be, always are.

A friends gf is a nurse and she said hospital admissions are rising fast. All ages too.
It's ok though. The pubs and restaurants HAVE to make their profits; and kids and university students HAVE to be in attendance even though it threatens the population as a whole and they could be catered to by remote learning.

"It's only 80 or so dead per day at the moment" after all. We need to be at 500+ before we need to address these issues.

One of the reasons they are staying open is because the government has yet to, or is unwilling to, come up with a viable alternative for them imo

The universities will not give up their fees seeing as how much they are losing through lack of overseas students.

Furlough wise?

They'll extend handouts to that sector but not use the 'f' word for it.

The fact they're slow to do that and late to lock down again for ideological reasons (AGAIN) is a scandal.

The terms for the newly evolved one aren't great though, are they? I haven't looked in detail but I don't think they are able to support a sector.
