So by your logic, my elderly parents ( both in their 80’s ) both of sound mind and intelligent people, should have the right to make their own decisions about who they see and where they go taken away from them for “ their own good “ ???

So by them going out for lunch once a week and my dad having a few drinks in the golf club after he’s finished a game is tantamount to reckless endangerment of both their lives ???

Ffs I’ve heard it all now.

You know if you actually ventured into some of the places you so readily condemn, you’d see that you don’t turn into a pile of ashes the moment you put one foot through the door lol
They and others need to have that "choice" to be taken out of their hands. That's what a competent government does in a national emergency.

Ok. So if you support the notion that older people shouldn't go out.

Apply my idea to that.

Tell them to shield at home, too dangerous to go out etc. Everyone else goes back to normal.

What's the difference in that?
Businesses get back to normal, people aren't being trapped in their homes for no reason and the ones who need protecting can be protected, with money that is being used to top up jobs out of work instead going to establish care networks for those having to stay at home.

That way the ones who won't die to the virus can get the country back to normal and the ones who are dying to the virus are protected at home.

It's having your cake and eating it Dave so to speak.
Because those people who shield dont live in a vacuum, they need help to remain shielded. They require a lot of treatments. And that entails contact of some description. Cutting down on the possibilty that their contacts are infected is surley a sensible thing to do?

Just ask me out already x
Oh look, the *edgy* poster is toying around with homophobia in a very 'laddish' way.

That'll deter me from holding you responsible for your clueless and dangerous prpoaganda on here that a second wave was not happening.

It happened back in March. Did that make us a totalitarian state?

Lol.

I knew you’d come back with that.

It’s not the same thing and you know it.

You’re advocating the targeting of a specific age group ( the elderly ) and forcibly making them remain indoors whether they want to or not “ for their own good “

Maybe put them in one of those re education camps that don't exist whilst we’re at it for “ their own good “ too.

Nothing homophobic or edgy about my posts tbh.

I think your need to label things homophobic says more about you than me.

What's the faff? We've been out a few times since things have re-opened (for meals, not drinks), and you give your details at the door and put your face covering on if you go to the loo. Not much else is any different? Same with cafes. The actual act of consuming your food/drink isn't any different?
Would agree with that, I've found adapting to social distancing and track and trace in various hospitality venues pretty easy

But you wouldn't stop all of that in my scenario. You would have the treatment still , the contact with others still , just from home where they are safe.

So there would be emphasis on their contacts being safe yes like there is now, carers and whatnot aren't strolling in without ppe and licking everything

It keeps them safe and alive, it allows others who aren't at risk of dying to get the country running and best of all, minimises the impact of covid .

My brother (+ his girlfriend and her daughter) came over for dinner on sunday. Today my mum got a call from them saying that a guy they live with has tested positive for covid so now there's a chance we all have it.

I wouldn’t start panicking just yet mate, my missus who has it was in her office all day with her workmates the day before she developed symptoms and non of them have it ( all have been tested )

Same goes for my lad, who spent a day in school with symptoms and non of his mates so far have it / showing symptoms.

You should get a phone call from test and trace in the next 24hrs who will explain everything to you.

It may be a good idea to go out and get some supplies though, just in case one or more of you do have it.

Loads of sanitising gear too, as some may get it and some may not, so you’ll need to be wiping everything down all the time.

I get why you said it.

But surely the last thing he should do is go shopping?
