If someone wants to throw themselves off the Runcorn bridge should we allow them to?
An extreme example, but the principle is the same. What people want isn't always what's good for them.
These are very different times that we are living through and all manner of notions of how we should live are in the bin for the time being.
In short: it's a pandemic, they're dangerous, act accordingly.
Ok. So if you support the notion that older people shouldn't go out.
Apply my idea to that.
Tell them to shield at home, too dangerous to go out etc. Everyone else goes back to normal.
What's the difference in that? Businesses get back to normal, people aren't being trapped in their homes for no reason and the ones who need protecting can be protected, with money that is being used to top up jobs out of work instead going to establish care networks for those having to stay at home.
That way the ones who won't die to the virus can get the country back to normal and the ones who are dying to the virus are protected at home.
