I don’t feel the need to brag about my circumstances to strangers on an Internet forum.

You’ll grow up sooner or later. Hopefully gain some humility too.
Amen

Not coming across well at all is he

id ignore him but he makes me realise how lucky i am to not be him so al keep him there

You two are just as bad as the anti mask brigade and conspiracy theorist. Taking one extreme stance over the other.

Majority of people in this thread want a balance between saving lives and saving jobs and industry.

You both want to see everywhere shut down telling people to rely on the state when this is over to still have some semblance of a livelihood to come back to. That can’t happen.

The job market will contract and they’ll be mass unemployment which will lead to a much more devastating impact in the long term. It took Liverpool near on 30 years to recover from the late 70s/80s, we can’t have that happen again.

There’s a compromise to be had between saving lives and protecting the future of the country but you both seem unwilling to budge an inch on wanting everything shut down and having people rely on the state when it’s all done.

Have a look at the people around you and see what’s happening just six months in.
Coontinuing to live for older and people with potentially life threatening conditions

V

Curtailing the food and drink industry for months

Where is the balance to be struck there, because that is how stark the choice is.

No it isnt.

My elderly parents were locked down/shielded for months, quite cheerfully in the main, with me running around for them.

When the restrictions were eased, they wanted to take my lad out for lunch at their local Italian, as a thank you. Mum called the place, and asked how safe they would all be.

"Mrs Roydo, we would not have you in if we had any doubts you would be safe" So in they went. They didnt enjoy the experience too much, cos of the screens and masks and what not, but they loved being out, doing something "normal".

After lunch, the 3 of them went for a short walk round the marina, and stopped for coffee and watched some boats come and go, at a nice dockside cafe.

Think they preferred that to watching their lawn grow.

Yeah, which all took place in a period with the infection rate largely under control. That was then, this is now. Would they go into a restaurant now?

Go speak to people who have already been shielding for months.

See how they feel about being locked down again.
They're shielding for 8 months because they dont trust the data that they'll be ok...and now with the infection rate shooting up again they KNOW they wont be safe. The infection rate rising isn't an act of God, it's an act of human contact. Dont limit it, it goes up. Limit it, it decreases.

Ironically no. Because of the experience though, not the risk. Same reason my Dad doesnt have his weekly trip to the pub atm.
