That’s because people are getting out as much as they can because they’ve been locked up for months. It won’t stop people wanting to come to Liverpool but it will stop being able to come to Liverpool due to restrictions and affordability. Also would you want to come to our city in a few months or a years time when half the bars restaurants are boarded up because they’ve gone bust?

Yes because I love the city and I don’t think half the bars/restaurants will be shut. Bars & restaurants open and shut every year anyway and will continue to. It’s not like I’ll travel down next July and I’m walking into 1940’s Derwent.

Theres no way to stop this except to let it either run it natural course of a vaccine becomes available quickly,at the beginning this country had a chance to have control over it and failed, throughout ot all they have sent mixed messages, people have gotten fed up of being told what they should do while others get to ignore the rules

Hang on, are you suggesting it doesn’t kill younger demographics than OAP’s?
Based on the official government figures no.

That's not a no young person ever has died from it, it's a difference of say one or two compared to other years.

Compare to say 80 plus where you can see this year an increase of 2000 or so at the pandemics worse.

But then that data doesn't factor in conditions for said young person to die from it , which again is very important.

If I was 70/75 yo I wouldn't call for series of lockdowns, I had my day they also should have theirs. If I die, I die. Heck, one of my two going grandparents also says this has gone mental. He is 75. Lives alone, and a pretty tough guy.

This in a nutshell.

Life has to go on.

Okay, let’s discuss. You suggest I want everything shut down whilst we combat this.

Please provide your evidence and we shall proceed.

I’m making the assumption based on your posts in this thread where you seem to continuously disagree with anyone saying we need to keep certain industries open to protect jobs.

I think your only thought on this is to protect lives, and livelihoods of people can go to the back burner and be addressed when the time comes, with no empathy or thought towards the impact of thousands of people losing their jobs.

If I’am wrong please tell me.

The City Centres and Lakeland towns are two completely different things and well you know it.

In London, the majority of attractions are incredibly quiet because there are so few tourists. Most of those who work in London don't live in London (certainly not central London, plus it's debatable whether actual residents visit the galleries and attractions etc. as much as tourists do. So the removal of tourists and office workers has probably been the main problem in central London and it's hard to imagine heavily over-crowded weekend trade is going to help much.

I mean a few of us are having a board game night on Thursday (we're old, shush at the back) in a central London pub at 6pm. It would have been unheard of previously. The wife and I went on a trip yesterday and had to change tube at Picadilly Circus, and at like 4.30pm there was maybe a handful of people in our carriage. Normally at that time you wouldn't be able to move on either the train or the platform.

The thing is, the government can't stand by and let scenes like that take place, so given the limitations of their power, they will probably end up shutting everything down because those who have gone out have behaved stupidly.

If I was an old person who may have 6 months 2-3-4 years left then I would be going to see my grandkids taking them the park, shopping or whatever it maybe. Would I fook be sitting there lonely waiting for this farce to end, because there will be a lot in this position now who won’t see the end of this (and not because of Covid) and they may have already kissed and hugged their loved ones for the last time!
It’s mind boggling people are buying this. I’d like to see the views of the ‘save the gran’ crew when we’re sitting here in 12 months time struggling to put food on the table and people probably thinking do they want live anymore.

The aftermath of this is going to be off the scale if we don’t stop it now.
Exactly, many old people I know hate this status quo. They are bolder than loads assume.

It does, people just need to do what they can personally to protect themselves and their family, pubs being open/closed doesnt bother me either way,I rarely visit them, but being open is better than the takeaways they started doing at first, there would be 10/15 pissheads all standing together drinking, shops should have kept there so many in so many out policy plus mandatory mask wearing, the government could have sent clear messages out, once Cumming got away with his trip and mass protests were allowed( whether they were for a good purpose or not) most people thought well they can do that so can I

I also think adults are responsible enough to make their own decisions. My nan is nearly 80 and has a heart condition - realistically she is likely not to be around in 5 years time as is life so im not going to stop her seeing my lad (her great grandson). She gets upset when she cant see him, he loves her and I accept the risks but her wishes and would never tell her to koff and stay locked in alone at home until she dies lonely without family around.

Everyones circumstances are different but we cant lock everything and everyone down.

For me invest in home testing kits that can deliver faster even daily results and have care workers tested daily and people going in hospitality work.

I’m okay thanks - currently at the home office making my dosh:)

At least 50% of the clientele in my local are retired fellas who refuse to live in fear and want their lives to be as normal as possible.

Most of them are educated, ex professionals who are intelligent enough to see through the agenda driven fear being spread by the media.

Do you think people will stop coming to Liverpool though, like honestly? The only reason they aren’t right now, or maybe being dissuaded, is the local restrictions isn’t it.

Have you noticed the city centre day/night being quieter than this time last year? I certainly didn’t on my few trips there in July.
Which could be why there's a spike now.
Just sayin like

In my opinion the UK locked down too late and let it go too early...also, what where they doing letting everybody and his brother dash off abroad at the first opportunity
And thats before you look at lack of incoming airport quarantine.

Thats not to give other Countries a free pass either - every one is different and mistakes were made, but off the top of my head I don't think many will say we got it pretty much right.

As the UK found out in 1956 Asian flu epidemic - remembering the lessons learned is always the hard part.
And having people in charge with the courage to Implement unpopular policies is even harder
