Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Thats the problem with random figures getting posted; context.

So many variables behind the output, but the headlines will be being written as we speak. Well, post.

That's why I don't bother reading the paper or watching the news anymore. Restrictions may change constantly but none (really) are policed so most people will continue to just do what they feel is best for them/their family. In reality people like you or me don't need headlines or stats or restrictions to persuade us to stay in where possible for the mean time.

Then what you are suggesting by saying that is zero human interaction is the answer.
This is typical of the response I get on this. Where and when have I stated there should be 'zero human interaction'?

If I say on here something about the need for a more communal approach to this crisis, I get countered with "Eh, Dave, that's a bit much. You want communism and the gulags back? You're worse than Stalin".

They and others need to have that "choice" to be taken out of their hands. That's what a competent government does in a national emergency.

To my eyes, that isnt "a more communal approach".

Its the exact opposite.

The government (a COMPETENT government) is the community writ large.

No it isnt.

Its the Government. They set the rules.

Communities then decide if they will have a communal approach within the rules. Your Government would lock folk over 60 in their houses. My community works its collective arse off to make our community as safe as is possible, and as pleasant as possible for the over 60's to live in, as normally as is possible.

And the best bit is, we dont need a meeting or dictate to do that; we just do it cos the vast vast majority of normal people are decent and caring.

That is a communal approach.

We all know (don't we?) that Stalin was a totalitarian dictator.
Just looking through this thread you can clearly see the effect that the appalling mismanagement of the pandemic by Cummings & co has lead us
Mixed messages, incompetence of individual ministers has produced a divided electorate who doesn't know if it's coming or going.
Divisions between young and old, healthy and sick, employed, unemployed etc.
Be careful what we wish for......

And that's without mentioning B****t

Obviously people get affected by daily numbers, headlines, and so on, but probably more so by what they see, wearing masks or not, behaving sensibly, pubs and restaurants doing their best to be Covid secure or not and so on. I’ve no doubt that in some areas it’s more like the Wild West with hundreds partying in the streets etc, but it really isn’t like that for the majority of the people in the country. So I’m sure that people like Roydo and myself, who do see sensible actions taking place and people behaving responsibly, do not react quite as harshly to the daily headlines as others might. We are after all experiencing differing scenarios in our various parts of the country...
