No it isnt.

Its the Government. They set the rules.

Communities then decide if they will have a communal approach within the rules. Your Government would lock folk over 60 in their houses. My community works its collective arse off to make our community as safe as is possible, and as pleasant as possible for the over 60's to live in, as normally as is possible.

And the best bit is, we dont need a meeting or dictate to do that; we just do it cos the vast vast majority of normal people are decent and caring.

That is a communal approach.

This really. Most folk living in small towns and villages are fed up with rules brought in to control the idiot behaviour in the cities....

My government would rule through delegation: people delegated from local communities and constituencies would feed information back to the centre. And my government would act on that in a crisis like this by making it possible for older and vulnerable groups to circulate without recourse to 100% shielding.

But seeing as though we haven't got a government like that and we have instead a bunch of money grabbing economically-driven ideologues in charge who couldn't give a flying one about doing serious stuff to keep infection levels down like track and trace and making available test kits, then the old and vulnerable will have to err on the side of caution...the vast majority do right no, in fact.

Obviously people get affected by daily numbers, headlines, and so on, but probably more so by what they see, wearing masks or not, behaving sensibly, pubs and restaurants doing their best to be Covid secure or not and so on. I’ve no doubt that in some areas it’s more like the Wild West with hundreds partying in the streets etc, but it really isn’t like that for the majority of the people in the country. So I’m sure that people like Roydo and myself, who do see sensible actions taking place and people behaving responsibly, do not react quite as harshly to the daily headlines as others might. We are after all experiencing differing scenarios in our various parts of the country...
Everyone knows what it's like up here in the north west. It's a social shambles. That's why this government have to listen to the council leaders and shut the social life of our towns and cities down.

Not sure if you are trying to be funny or ironic, but if thats what you actually think then you agree with me that communities are working within the rules to help and protect the elderly, to my eyes anyrate.

Your first paragraph is VIth form eyewash.

I realise you're in a sleepier part of the world. But take it from me, up here right now is out of control and we need drastic action to stop the old and vulnerable being killed in the numbers they were in the spring. I could give a damn about 'choice' and 'liberty'. When you're dead you have neither.

Lock the whole thing down NOW.

That's partly due to the weekend lag effect mate.

Average deaths per day ( by date of death ) is about 30, but it's doubling roughly every two weeks, which means that it'll likely be about 60 in a couple of weeks. If ( big if ) , the new restrictions have an effect , it'll take two or three weeks for that to show in hospitalisation numbers, and longer for them to have an effect on daily deaths.

There are over 2000 people in hospital with COVID now, that number is also rising pretty fast, and will likely break 4,000 in 10 to 14 days.
At that point, we'd have about 20% of the number of people we had in hospital at the peak. At 4,000 COVID patients, we'd likely be in a position where non-COVID work is being significantly affected.

What happens beyond that depends on how people react. I suspect, until / unless deaths regularly get to 100+ a day again, that a significant number of people will carry on pretty much as normal, but, on the other hand, a significant number of people will alter what they do to take account of the changing situation.

As it stands, pubs and restaurants look nailed on to be closed in the North of England in the next two to four weeks.

Be better shutting the Hospitals and care homes. The real disease factories.

Stop being such a drama queen to suit your agenda.

You make it sound like the whole city is balls deep in a non stop Roman orgy.

Where as the reality is that once people have got in from work, the streets are pretty much dead, as are the pubs and restaurants now too.
