You think I care more for a football club than human life? Have a word.
So, if these new measures were to save the life of just one person but ultimately were to lead to the bankruptcy and the end of Everton Football Club you'd be fine with that? If so you must live a tortured life and deserve nomination for sainthood.

In what way exactly, apart from the PR ? ...deaths per million, tests performed per million, availability of hospital beds, the economy, GDP performance by sector. So exactly how ?.....

track and trace, Pete - in Wales (and I think in Scotland) it’s in house, and has been much more effective at detecting people with it / at risk

We are at an impasse I'm afraid because I don't really see it that way, I've said on here how impressed I am with certain businesses such as gyms and local coffee/food shops have been in adapting to the crisis to make me feel safe when using them. I don't expect anyone to do nothing for 6 months, but I do expect an attitude of caution and consideration to others and a willingness to adapt and where needed sacrifice. The problem for me is it comes back to have a testing system capable of handling this but we obviously don't and I haven't the first clue when that infrastructure will be up and running, I do feel the process will be slowed down as we payout to cummings pals and tory donors instead of concentrating on performance
thing is if we locked everything down it could have been all over way before September. If we are to trust Chinese numbers (I know I don't) they got away with it. I agree with @JLW either close every place down for a while [people will adapt knowing this will result in something worthy] and weaken the epidemic to the point we can live fairly normal, or else open everywhere if it's not that bad, as gyms etc would stay open, which is crazy. Simply because people are interacting a lot during these soft lockdowns. No matter how many precautions are in place, it does and will happen. That's why soft lockdowns are pointless imo. It doesn't result in anything, only it increases uncertainity.

World does not make a choice and struggle in between.

That may be true.

But it's absolutely the deaths that is the driving reason for it being a pandemic worthy of a lockdown in the first place.

Noone cares if you are sick, they care about you dying though.

No deaths = no locking the country down. Hence why the government did nothing until the deaths were starting to increase.
Unfortunately, deaths will follow these infection rates. Many of them.

Yes but we're talking about policy decisions that knowingly effect them.

Policies will facilitate the sort of generational changes in the economy we're talking about, but it'll take time for Britain to disengage from a service sector dominated economy, or at last diversify a bit more. Many parties since the 2008/09 crash have talked up the 'retooling' of the economy but it'll come incrementally.

Yes, I would. And I find it incredible that you wouldn't.

Prove to me restricive measures, testing, tracing and everything else that can take place without a full lockdown (and I mean full lockdown) has no effect at all. The idea its full lockdown or full open because 'it can't be that bad then' is complete garbage

OK but what is your POV on full on lockdowns (limited time), maybe we will never need another one (soft or hard) if we have one? European nations never tried it afaik. Economy will be hit but who cares, if it is over, it is over. People would prefer this if it's the quicker solution.

Really? So to turn this around, you’ll willingly sacrifice a life so that a sports club is kept open and running?
