Will there be isolation "facilities" for the infirm/elderly to live in and die quietly while the "healthy young people" get on with their lives?

I think we should be told...

This is the thing, in all seriousness. I absolutely don't think the solution for 'protecting' vulnerable groups is locking anyone away.

It has to be a vaccination, really, and everyone taking measures (like wearing masks etc) in public areas. I'm fine with that.

Issue is how long it's around for though, and how many industries or independent businesses are lost and people just can't get them back (I'm an example of someone who's lost work 'for the greater good' and even though sport is now back I have no guarantee or certainty and have had to look for other work and, frankly, my career has taken a big hit in the space of six months and I don't know if it'll recover. It's crap but I know it's not the end of the world).

So after this six months is up, considering that'll then be a whole year since lockdown first occurred, then there has to be a return to normality or we may as well never go back and just all live our lives in some weird online limbo.

There is no such thing as 100% safety in anything in life. I don't understand when people on TV or the media use the phrase "100% safety".

The virus will be here until we get a vaccine, and potentially even afterwards too in a lesser form.

We need to find an effective one, then get mass production for the whole country. That's possibly years away. We need to learn to live with this virus and we can't have continuous restrictions for years or the whole country will be decimated.

We can't stop those who want to go to games from going, just because others don't want to go. That's fine for a while, but it doesn't work forever.

I totally agree it can't last forever but until the treatments are there to manage the virus in a effective way it's too early. Basically by allowing interactions on this scale (a few thousand or so) you set the whole countdown to yet more restrictions. To me at least there are more important things at the moment.

Sure, but again that’s something that would need to be sorted out. People are supposed to only being used Public Transport as vital, which travelling to sport wouldn’t be, so regrettably it would be restricted to either people who can park at a ground or walk there. In terms of turnstiles it’s no different than queueing outside shops. It happens and the risk can be mitigated with masks/social distancing.

Grounds also didn’t allow people to congregate on concourses or queue for food. It was all to the seat service. It was very different to a ‘normal’ game.

My point is that your closing remark suggested that people were forced to be there ‘if they had the option’ suggested people were there not of their own volition. It just feels like you’ve taken your own match day experiences and considered them to be normal.

I think you missed what I was trying to say, I meant if the CEOs/Chairmen were forced to go like a normal supporter outside of their protective bubble, then they might not want to. Not the supporters who have gone there by choice.

All what you say is fine IF there wasn't complete bells around that can't be bothered to wait, that flout rules and regulations. It's just human nature and when you get a crowd of thousands unfortunately there will be hundred(s) of these types.

Unfortunately even another 6 months of no ticket revenue will see sports clubs go to the wall.

I feel we are stuck in limbo here and there is very little light. People need some sort of timescale and hope. The thought of another 6 months of restrictions is actually getting me a bit down. Forget going to football, we can't even go into someone else's home here or have people round. It's fairly grim.

Wishing her a fast recovery mate x

Thanks, it`s just like a heavy cold at the mo. She`s more worried about our youngest, as he falls slap bang in the at risk group due to his disability.

However, he`s quickly adapted to a diet of lager and pasties and is currently enjoying himself watching a cartoon version of Lenin`s purges of the intellectual and bourgeois classes in Russia.

That last sentence is the most hard hitting. I haven't seen my parents since Feb and that's why I think I feel large gatherings are a bit of a no no seeing I would rather get to a point where I can see them first. I would like nothing more to be at a packed Goodison with this team on the pitch. It sucks.

For the clubs going bust obviously it is a massive concern, we always knew there would be a reckoning at somepoint, just not in this form. Hopefully they get support and the players don't try to bleed them dry, an extended furlough scheme with further repayment holidays has to be the way forward.

Hopefully the vaccine comes through for us all and ASAP.

I just don't think a vaccine will be available soon enough for us to not allow fans back. I don't think we can wait years without serious damage. Once a town or area loses their team, then there's no guarantee it ever comes back.

Its in humans nature to believe they are smarter and above nature but I believe we are snookered.

Pandemics are essentially one of natures ways of keeping a species population down - if nature doesn't want this thing to go away it wont do therefore a vaccine becomes essential.

I personally cant see one of those until the end of 2021 the time it gets rolled out.

Problem is by that time I fear economic ruin on the scale of post WW1 / the great depression.

lower league , Scottish football , rugby league and plenty of other small sports teams could go.

Irish League in big trouble too. League had been held back until mid October so crowds could come back, but that's looking extremely doubtful now. Indoor sports are in an awful position too. Once furlough ends next month then all these clubs have to start paying 100% of wages but have zero income.

It's completely unsustainable and crowds are the only solution.
