Gunna be a long winter isnt it, you know all this talk of second wave etc will there just be a 3rd wave and so on till vaccine?

The term second wave implies the first wave ever truly ended. Lockdowns do not stop a virus, they suppress it for a time. We pressed pause on the situation and then as soon as we returned society to a bit more normalcy cases started to rise again. The virus is in circulation and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. Even if there is another lockdown the virus will be waiting.

'psychos'?

Another reason you cant be taken seriously.

As an academic you’ll know that a lack of empathy for others is a prime psychotic trait. Not giving a “flying one” about the health of the public fits quite neatly. I’m sure I could go back and find other posts you’ve made about restaurateurs and pub landlords in a similar vein.

Slightly concerning news that will fuel those against vaccines. The two participants in the trial developed transverse myelitis- although the first case was related to MS. Still, it’s worrying and is a thorn in the “just hold on for the vaccine” line of thinking.

The condition is rare, but serious, and experts said that finding even one case among thousands of trial participants could be a red flag. Multiple confirmed cases, they said, could be enough to halt AstraZeneca’s vaccine bid entirely.

“If there are two cases, then this starts to look like a dangerous pattern,” said Mark Slifka, a vaccine expert at Oregon Health and Science University. “If a third case of neurological disease pops up in the vaccine group, then this vaccine may be done.”

2 close mates have tested positive in the last week, both in their mid 30s and based in Knowsley area yet caught it in different settings as they haven't been around each other.

Both are having a really bad time with it. One said the headaches are unbearable and feels like his chest is in a vice.

I'm sure they'll make a full recovery and be fine, but doesn't sound too pleasant.
I truly hope that they will make a rapid recovery.
However we have a friend who's son is still suffering breathing difficulty after 3months.
Young people should be made more aware that infection by this virus can have serious consequences. It's not just the elderly who could be in danger from the infection.

Why? Do people under 45 not become infected, become sick and pass it on to others.
Why does he try to compare UK with Sweden? What's in it for this arch tory?

To be fair he’s not saying it, he’s saying others are of that opinion.

The situation really isn’t clear cut. There are scientific voices now on both sides of the lockdown argument. Some are of the opinion that lockdown is a necessity, while others believe that lockdown will solve nothing in the long run and cause more damage to the wellbeing of the public at large.

For a start I'm not a Tory. They do become infected, get sick and pass it on.

What they don't seem to do is need hospital treatment or die.

Why can't we compare?

I had a cough and tight chest for about 2 weeks back when the only way you got a test was either being in hospital or having a fella who works on the bins.

I havent a clue if I've had it but atleast now you can apply for a test.

For me we need to utilise antibody testing more - the government wont use them as they're terrified that anyone who tests positive wont comply with social distancing however its getting to the point where alot of people are not bothering anyway.

We need to be using the tools at our disposal.

on places making money I know some bars have absolutely smashed it post lockdown, I mean done really well . Interestingly , or probably not , I think they fall into two camps the better service and something a bit more personal and the concert square and some Baltic market places where they’re packing them in and it’s been bar rather than table service etc . I think the table service decree is the right thing although very probably too Late .

As regards restaurants I think it’s a surprise to hear places have ‘never done better ‘ , some ticked over nicely with takeaway even during lockdown but even with the offer you have to factor in the reduced capacity, the double and even trebling of cleaning bills plus it’s looked like it’s been couples rather than the big Groups with the extra starters for the table and a few additional bottles of wine . Also speak to cabbies they’re really suffering and that’s because during eat out loads we driving so that will tell you how the wine and drinks have been going and that’s a big earner .

places have done ok but I don’t see many making out like bandits, I do see places that have already shutting early and employing less staff . as regards the10pm finish I can see the reasoning even though the message as to whether it’s last orders or doors shut didn’t seem particularly clear . However over a week that’s potentially what 14 hrs ? Given the impact that many places have suffered it’ll be hard for many not to be letting staff go for the period , it’ll certainly mean reductions in hours .

a lot of places that weren’t viable or we’re struggling shut during lockdown as they took the money and run so most of what you’ve got are the relatively decent businesses but in my opinion people aren’t making fortunes, well apart it seems from the very lucky ones .
Worth noting that once winter kicks in the capacities of most resturants will be reduced even further, I can't imagine that places like castle street will continue to be pedestrianized in the winter. I suppose it may be possible with outdoor heaters and some kind of covering but seems unlikely. A little bit off topic but how much nicer are places like that withour cars, vans, buses and obnoxious rats on motorbikes around all day.

Bit of a daft argument, that - lockdowns are ruinously expensive and have considerable social impact especially on mental health and wellbeing. We should do everything we can to avoid them unless its absolutely necessary, and I doubt that anyone on either side of that "argument" doesn't acknowledge this.

The problem is that our government have been so incompetent that we are probably going to have to have another one, because the alternative is even more deaths than we saw in March and April and public disorder on a scale none of us have ever seen in this country.

The antibody test is crap. Mine didn't work and the booklet it came with tells you it's not accurate.

If COVID is like MERS or SARS then T cells is what we should be looking for. But they are more expensive to test for.
