That second article appears to be absolute rubbish, with almost every fact there being a lie.

NHS Track and Trace has not been managed in house; it was largely set up and run by Serco and a zoo of subcontractors and its run by someone (Harding) imposed from outside too. The idea that noone could have predicted demand would go up is so risible its actually bloody offensive, given that many people here predicted it and anyone above the age of two could tell you that more people get sick in the winter. Worst of all, at no stage there does that article say how they are going to increase the number of tests done, just delivered.

Tbf to whoever wrote the article some of your valid criticism is more directed at the government than the writers themselves - they do after all say these Harding comments “prompted incredulity“

It's largely been introduced in the past week, to combat the rising demand for tests.

Common message in the NHS now.
That's not the issue here - it's ALWAYS been the line that testing should be on people with covid-type symptoms and the guidleines were from the top. What's being talked of (CLAIMED) here is that front line doctors and nurses are telling people not to get tested unless they are symptomatic. And that is just BS.

It all trickles down Dave. And if the protocol tells you that you should only test in specific circumstances that will be the advice.

Regardless, I'm not really sure why it would be Dr's and nurses giving that advice in a hospital setting. They would be conducting tests based on clinical merit and the rest of circumstances would go through 111, GP or online platform - in which case you'd be told not to get one unless you've got symptoms.

It's all a mess : if you have symptoms, book a test - told no tests available - visit testing centre, no public there because you need an appointment.

In the last week I had two mates whose kids required tests , from a school perspective they were effectively demanded . One lives in Liverpool the other over the water . The one in Liverpool was online trying to book a test for ages and getting sent all over the show , I’m talking miles away . The other fella went to the walk in covid testing centre in Chester by the racecourse , which online didn’t suggest to the Liverpool bloke.

As an outsider looking in it’s absolutely chaotic, just all over the show

People will go to work with symptoms now though as they are skint.
Sorry to say, but that’s we’re we are at.
Shambles.
It's good to work, feeds the mind, Zero our contracts concentrates minds and work ethic. None of this full contracted work, with paid sick leave, what are you a dangerous Communistic type...
