Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Workers in offices and kids going to school aren’t the ones causing the spread currently. It’s 19-30 year olds being selfish twerps.
It's the 19 to 30 year olds who are needed to kick start the economy, to be wasting and being frivolous with their monies on iPhones oatmeal latte's and smashed avocado on roasted sour dough...

Im sure there have been.

Unless you propose we stop all economic activity until a vaccine is found you must have a compromise which involves avoiding unnecessary gathering. The service sector which employs millions cannot afford another full lockdown and some businesses do need office workers to be in.

In pretty much no circumstances however do you need dozens of young people gathering in each other’s houses.

I’ve been going into the office once per week, none of us have tested positive and every member of staff is temperature checked upon entry and exit. Something tells me this isn’t happening in people’s homes.
I'm not sure where the above came from, I never suggested closing everything down (which has never happened btw).

The government's never had a responsible and capable handle on this, ever, and if things continue to get worse, hospitality will probably only have the irresponsible as clientel as the public and private sector responsibly withdraw from unsafe arenas like the first time.

The government is getting ridiculous now.

Nick Hancock now saying the testing system is hitting it's limit because of people who don't have the virus are getting unnecessary tests.

WHAT IS THE POINT IN ONLY EVER TESTING PEOPLE WHO ARE SHOWING SYMPTOMS IN A PANDEMIC?!

That pretty much confirms that the government are only interested in tests when people have got it. So no actual plan to see how many hidden numbers there are in terms of the country to be able to manage it more effectively.

It's embarrassing now. Should be testing as many as possible , not just the ones who have it to find out how widespread it is.

And why are they unnecessary? They have a long list of symptoms that yesterday added headaches and sniffles to it. How on earth are you supposed to even know you have it before you get tested anymore?

We can't have a system where millions just decide they want a test on the same. There is a finite number of tests so of course we need some sort of criteria.

Whether we have enough tests is another debate, but I don't know the answer to that.

I haven't had any cold/flu symptoms during this so haven't went for a test. But if I do feel ill over the winter then I will. But I won't be booking a test just because I can and feel entitled to one.

I didn’t say you did suggest closing everything down.

The government incompetence both previously and now doesn’t determine the logic of every single policy decision.

There is a sensible explanation behind why workplaces and things which generate economic activity are being prioritised ahead of private gatherings. There are multiple people in this thread acting as if it doesn’t make sense to do so.

you would like to think lockdown again is very very unlikely, imagine the jobs lost and the results of that

crime, sucide etc etc, be worse than just telling people to do there best and crack on with normal life imo

Again, that’s not the driver behind the cases increasing.

It is people of that age gathering in dwellings away from prying eyes or at things like raves and outdoor parties.

I’m 29, doesn’t stop me accepting my age group are by and large to blame at the moment.

Which I know from first hand experience people have been doing before going to a party or on holiday.

I've seen poor distancing from all ages tbh.

Expecting the young and healthy to follow rules stringently for over 6 months was a bit unlikely to me. We did well on the whole for a long time, but people will naturally want to return to some sort of normality. If they insist on bringing back restrictions right up to Christmas then the ground swell of opinion will be firmly against the government, if it isn't already...

Cant blame us, been a tough year for everyone and with not very clear rules people are gunna just get back to enjoying them selves if possible

as ive said before this forum dosent represent the avg man on street i honestly dont know anyone of any age whos botherd anymore in real life but on here you wouldnt think so

Indeed, but if anything this is going to result in social unification against them rather than division.
Won't hold my breath. Just got read the ER thread here to know the Tories have plenty of the simple willing.
It will start proper with in the press, and it will be Warboys and one of his victims, now very connected, and the director of prosecutions of the time.

Sorry but not a valid excuse for me.

Returning to normality is not a justification for the actions of that age bracket currently.

To even buy into that argument (that the young are to blame) is wrong - this disease is going to be out there whatever happens, if it’s not the 18-30 crowd getting sick then it will be school kids.

To keep society functioning during these times they needed to have a proper test, track and trace system - one that people could call in confidence they’d get a test quickly, get the results quickly and which could therefore identify and quarantine people with it and those they’d come into contact with. Once people were quarantined, they’d need to be supported financially and monitored to ensure they weren’t breaching it.

To do this would have needed tens of thousands of people (probably closer to 100000), proper organisation and a big upfront cost to set it up and run it for as long as necessary. It would however work, as this is how countries with more experience of outbreaks of disease do it.

Instead what we got is an outsourced nightmare of waste and incompetence, where they think it’s reasonable to get people to drive 75 miles to get tested. Now they are saying it’s everyone’s fault.

The rules have been clear enough to tell people not to do the things they’ve been doing. You shouldn’t be an apologist for selfish people being selfish.

Having a indoor 30th birthday party with 15-20 people form different households all hugging and observing zero social distancing is not within the rules and anybody saying that’s “confusing” is lying.
