This is where your argument to open up falls down: it only takes a minority of those holidaying (or going to pubs/restaurants) to be less than serious about how they socially distance for the virus to get a massive hold on the population again.

In what world is 'Avoid large gatherings and parties' the same as quarantine ?
 
Hospital figures - 5 is the announced total, 3 up on yesterday and 4 down on last Tuesday. All 5 were in English hospitals, again 3 up on yesterday and one down on last week with 3 occurring in the past 10 days

You're saying that you want quarantine to be observed with no shortcuts, and you would condemn anyone for seeking to avoid them or trying to circumvent them. I'm saying that people who fall into that category and try not to observe quarantine are a by-product of the call to open the economy up. You cant have one without the other. There will always be different responses to observing regulations.

So, you either have an approach that keeps shut down the drivers to transmission of infection, like the holiday industry and the hospitality industy, in order to keep on top of the infection rate, or you open up the economy and suffer the consequences.

THAT is my point.

Great just what we need.

Seemingly Tahoe has been packed with people. We have a place up there and we were let know by one of neigbors up there not to bother driving up even just to isolate in the home on the lake. As its full of idiots sorry I mean tourists. All of our friends there feel stuck now and others who have homes elsewhere have left.

At one point only residents were allowed in but given a lot of the properties nowadays are air bnb and such its hard for them to keep people away. Many of the permanent residents there are elderly.

Has to be a balance mate. Like you, I am staggered that folk cant or wont follow pretty simple processes; I am also staggered why folk feel the need to stampede to a beach.

But as long as the majority of folk do the right thing, and as long as we can double down on localised spikes, (which we seem to be doing, somehow), then we must gently and slowly get on top of this, while not destroying the economy and even more lives.
