Or.....

They died despite being covid-19 positive.

There isn't any separation between the two. Dying of and dying with are two completely different things yet on the statistics they aren't.

The way I view it , go back in time and look at the monthly averages. Anything over the average is clearly covid-19 related and anything else isnt.

So if on average 10000 thousand people die in April and the figure is 18000 then it's not a large jump to say those extra are directly caused by it. But then saying 500 died in June of covid and the figure is at the average rate for example makes me question why there was a sudden drop in deaths at that point in the year.

Oh, I pretty much agree with what you're saying there, but it certainly wasn't where @Tipp blue was coming from.

You're right though, a big chuffing above average number of deaths in the middle of a pandemic has to be firmly laid at the foot of COVID, but, when deaths are around average, then it becomes much harder, without looking in detail at each individual death certificate, to determine how much of an effect COVID played in each death.

We're now seeing below average deaths in hospitals, but hundreds of extra people a week have been dying at home, which is a concern, because it implies they're not getting the care they normally would. Now, it's a possibility that some of those hundreds have dementia, are isolated and dying as a result ( I don't know, I havn't seen the breakdown of deaths in the home ), but that's a whole different ball park to an extra 10k deaths in April from dementia.

Has to be a balance mate. Like you, I am staggered that folk cant or wont follow pretty simple processes; I am also staggered why folk feel the need to stampede to a beach.

But as long as the majority of folk do the right thing, and as long as we can double down on localised spikes, (which we seem to be doing, somehow), then we must gently and slowly get on top of this, while not destroying the economy and even more lives.
You can have the balance without opening up Covid19 incubators like pubs and restaurants. At the very least, pubs, bars and restaurants should have been limited to outdoor service. If the schools go back as planned then you'll see just how 'essential' they are.

Any one here had the test done? what's it like? GP told me I have to be tested, I have a slightly sore throat and an intermittent cough, both things I regularly get together anyway, but I guess this is the reality now any dose displaying symptoms will be referred for a test.
