Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

The vast majority of people in the country will do the quarantine. I know COYB is from L25, but don't know where you're from Bri. But, for obvious reasons, it might be that there's a larger level of distrust for government on Merseyside than there is in most parts of the country ?

Sadly, if that leads to more people locally breaking the rules, then it could affect friends and neighbours far more than it does anyone in Whitehall. The breakdown in trust and respect between people and government has a lot to answer for and ends up with, as we see on here, people picking holes in guidance and law, when really, it makes more sense to see that it isn't perfect, but it's broadly sensible.
Too many will be doing what they perceive to be in the best interests of their family. Imo.

I find it weird that it needs enforcing. I mean, through no fault of their own, other than needing a holiday after 3 months of doing nothing, they may have been exposed to the virus. So please self isolate to protect people you know. And people you dont.

Thank you.

Isn't the issue more about people being told to quarantine for 2 weeks and them potentially losing their jobs because their employer won't just give them a fortnight off for nothing?

How many people (hand on heart) would risk their livelihood just because you happened to travel to a country that saw a recent increase in cases?

People knew the risks of heading abroad this summer. I dont have that much sympathy for those who are away just for a holiday and no other reason.

What about people who booked their holiday before the pandemic and can’t get a refund if they cancel.

That’s the boat I’m in with my trip in a few weeks. I feel like I have no choice but to go, now we’ve been told by the travel company we won’t get a refund if we cancel.

Plenty of people will be in this situation.

Plus, the government and travel companies actively encouraged people to book holidays.

Refund or not you don't have to go on the holiday though.

That is easy to say but the Government have not given any incentive to do that, in fact there are plenty of incentives to breach it.

I've lost flights too and its really annoying. But I cant risk being hit with a 14 day quarantine with my job, now that I'm back in the office some of the time.

I go to most Northern Ireland away matches as well and most of the games are gonna be behind closed doors or were rescheduled, so I'm out those flights as well.

I have no issue with anyone deciding to go abroad and I dont think its selfish. I'm very much in favour of people being left to make their own choice. But we all know there's a risk of quarantine rules changing while you're away so I dont have huge sympathy.

So you’d be happy to just be out of pocket then?

Considering I have to provide two negative tests at the airport, then have another one on arrival, I think the risk of contracting the virus and coming back with it is extremely minimal.

I wouldn't be happy being out of pocket was merely pointing out whether you go or don't go you'll still be out of pocket. *shrug*
