Because testing on return alone, say at the airport or ferry terminal, could be of very limited value and actually counter-productive to the management of the virus. Not sure why people aren't being tested and allowed to go on their way. Hundred thousand tests per day and we lock people down on the off chance. Hardly very sophisticated is it?
For example, you could get off the plane and be tested and come back with a negative result, so the person is relieved and relaxed - I haven't got the virus.
However, the virus may have been in the incubation stage therefore not recognisable on the test; it could have been passed on the very journey back itself.
Personally, I would mandate quarantine on return and a series of tests say within a day of your return and within seven days; if clear on both, you're free to work etc.
We've got the capacity haven't we?
Well, the government said you can be checked up on, but let's be honest we all probably understand that is more of a gesutre of goodwill with the odd checked. All of these people stuck in France scrabbling around to get home before quarantine hits
Does anybody check that these people are quarantining for 14 days when they get home? Surely people are just going to come back whenever they were scheduled to and then go about their daily lives?
