The UK guidance was pretty specific; wear face masks or a face covering. IIRC, Johnson went out of his way to explain that any face covering was better than nothing. In my experience, everyone wears sommet in the shops, more masks than scarfs though.

This article tested that theory...something better than nothing...and it didn’t hold true. Some were no better than or worse than nothing.
Single study and all that, but I like data.

I think the idea was to get as many as possible in a proper mask, (worked), but if you dont have one to hand, it isnt that big a deal. (As long as most have a proper one on).

I saw a bloke a while back in Sainsburys with a WW2, or WW1 (wasnt at either) gas mask on. Utterly useless!!

I actually heard a conversation between 2 women earlier
Woman 1"why are you wearing a mask?"
Woman 2 "Im on my way to the Asda"
Woman1 "I wont wear one"
Woman2 "Why?"
Woman 1 "I read on FB a woman wore one, swallowed her own bacteria and is now on life support"
Woman 2 "Really? Well they dont tell you that on the news do they"
Thats the world we live in
I read on GOT that a woman read on FB that a woman wore a mask and she swallowed her own bacteria and later she gave her husband a gobby his penis fell off and she's on life support.

I’ve seen all kinds of mad stuff inc an old boy, who I see regularly on my runs, who dons a mask the moment he sees anyone, sticks his arms out like a plane and starts shouting “ two metres, two metres “ over again.

He’s now simply known as “ two metres “ and gets absolute hell off the Ketwigs on their mountain bikes lol

Highest number of positive tests for weeks and weeks today.

Circa 1100. So, thats actually not "that" many. But is it down to the lighter restrictions, more testing, test and trace getting better, the weather, folk getting careless, bit of all of the above?

surely the more they test the more positives there will be. the people needing treatment is minimal still isnt it? Most people who have had it wont have any symptoms- depending what you read. I am starting to get the feeling that people arent really that bothered anymore. Personally i dont know what to believe and i dont think anyone really knows

I dont know mate. Its what is so annoying. A random 2 line article is on the radio, with absolutely no context at all. From what I see, the vast majority of folk are doing what they are asked to do, generally, quite cheerfully. So that suggests they are bothered, but not paralysed by fear.

My opinion is that if we just accept this as a new normal, things will be ok. There will be local outbreaks, but not the national lock down that some on here are salivating for. Hope I am right.

Same here in Ireland, more targeted testing is leading to catching more cases. Someone working in a food factory had symptoms and tested positive so they tested all employees working there and found 80+cases most had no symptoms, during the Lockdown only people with symptoms were tested and the other 80 odd would never have been found. Hospital numbers are more important now than number of cases, high positive numbers with low numbers needing medical help is exactly where we need to be.

Would prefer both to be low, but totally agree. Meant to ask @Megatron if he sees hospital admission figures. Or even if they are published.

The problem is the number of contacts being traced from people affected by the virus. Fifty three percent according to this :

Herd Immunity. As long as the hospitals are not overwhelmed, they're happy with a steady infection and death rate.
