I'm obviously missing something, but that report said that more 200 people died from Covid last week. How on earth can 217 people dying from Covid give you optimism?

It was a thousand in one day at one point. Absolutely horrific numbers. That's why I'm more optimistic.

Where you given guidelines on what to do re. track and trace if one of you subsequently developed symptoms ?, are you supposed to inform the places you ate in ?. I’m picking on you because you’ve been recently .

The way I’m led to believe it works, is that the details of that days customers are passed onto the relevant gov dept that deals with track and trace and they’re retained for 21 days ?

I’d confused myself reading the www.gov pages .I thought you just self-isolated with symptoms but it says get a test , so if it’s positive your details will be passed to a central body and your contacts traced.

Very important which is why there needs to be clear guidelines on what can open and how they can do it safely.

I’ll ask for the fifth time. What about the millions of unemployed people you’re willing to throw on the scrapheap until this virus disappears. This needs to be taken into consideration also. Surely you can see that?

Because there's a very good possibility that most of those 217 didn't actually die of Covid

Australia, until a couple of weeks ago had only 100 in total. 217 in one week is a horrific number

I'm not saying it's good but it's all relative. We had horrendous figures a few months ago and are in a far better place.

Regionally, I'm in Northern Ireland and we haven't had a death in 22 days. I don't think it's wrong for me to be confident things are getting better.

It's also not easy to compare the UK and Australia. One is a very densely populated island and the other a much more sparsely populated, and enormously big island with a third of the population.

Its up to the government and businesses to make wages up for furloughed staff. That IS where we'll be too when or if another lockdown happens for the hospitality sector. There's no way circa 3 million jobs will be allowed to disappear.

October will be the seventh month of the scheme. I'm not sure we can afford to extend it. Certainly not at the current level of support.

The furlough scheme is currently just delaying mass unemployment. We need to think less short-term now and look to save these jobs. The only way we save the jobs in the long term is to get everyone back to work. There are lots of industries in our country where once the jobs go, they won't come back.
