Maybe I have been blunt with my comments, I just don't understand how people criticise others who point out the facts and accuse people of being ageist or not caring about elderly.
Perhaps because you haven't given a blunt list of facts but laced generalisations around your own callous opinions. Many people don't like what you say because what you say is pretty heartless

Has the death rate dropped because of less infected or is the virus starting to weaken/mutate into a less deadlier strain?
Think it a combo of
a) higher % of cases in younger people where fatality rate is lower
b) relatedly better procedures in nursing homes which reduce % of most vulnerable infected and self shielding by others at risk.
c) improved knowledge of how to treat severe cases including drugs (eg dexamethasone) and procedures (not putting everyone on a ventilator if their O2 drops, proning etc).

It just feels as if we are sleepwalking towards a winter of carnage.
The government have totally lost control of any lockdowns now, all since Cummings btw, and they won’t be able to get it back.

Still, at least in the winter the beaches will be empty..

It's not that you've been blunt. It's that your comments have been rambling, incoherent drivel. Nobody was talking about political correctness or euthanasia until you decided to crap the bed.

For what it's worth, I worked in a care home setting for 9 years of my life and have seen the human body and mind deteriorate to such a condition that I agree death would be a mercy. But it is an entirely different argument for an entirely different day. Right now we have a virus that has blasted through hospitals, cities, towns, care homes and countries at a rapid pace. It has struck children, prime ministers, middle aged people and old people, people with chronic conditions and otherwise healthy people. It's going to easily chalk off a million people by the end of the year and could overwhelm our health system. The social effort being exerted to protect vulnerable people is down to the vast majority of normal people's concern for their family, friends and loved ones.

You're all over the place here. You clearly have no central argument and you've outed yourself as a monumental tithead. Pull yourself together ffs

Nothing I said was opinion.
This disease has a greater effect on older people- FACT.
Modern medicine has allowed people who would otherwise have died a long time ago to live into old age and develop other conditions as they age - FACT
The average age of people in Ireland who have died from covid19 is a higher number than the life expectancy-FACT
"People don't like what I say because what I say is pretty heartless" so to quote Ben Shapiro "facts don't care about your feelings". If you don't like it I'm sorry there's nothing I can do I can't change the facts.

Omg he's quoting Shapiro now

Right Tipp, what exactly is it you would like us to do with these facts that nobody has denied? What is it you're trying to say?

hahaha a shapiro quote! That really doesn't do you argument much good, that would be the same shapiro who is a devoutly religious climate change denier, so facts only don't care about feeling if anti gay marrige ben has his strawmen in place.

Anyway, your laughable use of a hideous and poorly informed individual aside, what is your point? The facts you quote are loose generalisations, advance in medical science (not the only factor) has allowed people to live longer yes, older folk are more likely to die if infected, yes. So what is your point at the end of these glaringly obvious facts. Oh and much like shapiro, for someone who claims they don't care about what others think of their 'facts' you do a really good job of crying it in

That quote was in response to someone who claimed that what I had said was my own twisted opinion. Just pointing out that what I said was not opinion based.

This is scandalous, medical professionals shouldn’t have to accept a toll on their own their lives to save others.
It’s been clear since the beginning of the pandemic that health care workers faced unique, sometimes extreme risks from COVID-19. Five months later, the reality is worse than most Americans know. Through the end of July, nearly 120,000 doctors, nurses and other medical personnel had contracted the virus in the U.S., the CDC reported; at least 587 had died.

Even those numbers are almost certainly “a gross underestimate,” said Kent Sepkowitz, an infectious disease specialist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City who has studied medical worker deaths from HIV, tuberculosis, hepatitis and flu. Based on state data and past epidemics, Sepkowitz said he’d expect health care workers to make up 5% to 15% of all coronavirus infections in the U.S. That would put the number of workers who’ve contracted the virus at over 200,000, and maybe much higher. “At the front end of any epidemic or pandemic, no one knows what it is,” Sepkowitz said. “And so proper precautions aren’t taken. That’s what we’ve seen with COVID-19.”

Meanwhile, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Servicesreports at least 767 deaths among nursing home staff, making the work “the most dangerous job in America,” a Washington Post op-ed declared. National Nurses United, a union with more than 150,000 members nationwide, has counted at least 1,289 deaths among all categories of health care professionals, including 169 nurses.

Right, but what are you saying? So far, for certain, we have:
  • The virus affects old people more: We all know that.
  • Modern medicine allows people to live longer. Agreed
  • The average age of people who have died from Covid is 84. Haven't verified that, but I'll take your word for it.
Now what? What were you saying with this collection of facts? Where do the PC brigade and euthanasia come into it?
