Liverpool shopping update. Ventured into town for the first time in 5 months.

Smyths - staff no mask / no challenge
(Only shop edge lane with staff masks -hm)

Primark- staff no masks / no challenge
Poundland thing- no mask / no challenge
Tesco old swan - no mask / no challenge
Superdrug - no mask / no challenge

Seems everywhere I go the staff are mostly not wearing masks in shops.

I did wear a mask in town itself for my wife's piece of mind / mass gatherings as per regulations tell me to. However I did spot people in most shops except smyths not wearing a mask also.

So again, flawed logic if the staff aren't wearing them.
Anecdotal crap alert

I just nipped to the Marks and Spencer food hall to buy some scran.
I wore a mask, my lad wore a mask, I didn’t even look to see if anyone else was to be honest.
Purely out of interest, if you were stopped by staff and told to wear one, what would your attitude be like ? Genuine question.

Stop being a condinsending tit mate.

I went shops, staff didn't have masks. No need to reply like a door knob about it.

But I was wearing one?

Same as walking around town outside the shops i was wearing one.

Just because I question the logic doesn't mean I'm not doing as I'm told.

Of course you did, but did you go to every single shop? See every member of staff? Every single member of the public? If not there are just too many variables in your data

There are things as windows.

I didn't say all shops, I listed the ones I went in

I know what you are doing but it really doesn't make sense and makes you sound like a tit as it's out of context.

I went into those shops, none of the staff had masks on which by default means they are putting their health at risk by not wearing them in shops.

Literally repeating the official guidelines there and what you all say.

How long does phase 3 have to last for though?

Surely long term effects could start months even years after vaccination - whats the cut off point thats deemed acceptable?

For me the economy simply couldn't take another lockdown - its either ride it out from this point or a shortened phase 3 and take the risk as it were

Did you pretend to be black while wearing the mask?

You take it first then yeah?

Don’t know, sorry.

But even if you ignore the safety aspect as I understand it another purpose of Phase 3 is to test for efficacy - ie whether it makes much difference compared to standard care. So it takes a while to be able to get the results that having the vaccine means you don’t develop the virus from regular day activities. You can speed this up by doing “challenge trials” but there are quite a lot of ethical issues with those.

From what I last read I think they are still looking for Phase 3 volunteers if you are interested.

Me and the missus went to a pub last night for a drink and a bite to eat. They've set up temporary external eating accommodation (basically tents with the flaps kept open). They weren't serving food in doors. We had to put masks on to go inside the pub to use the loos, even though there wasn't anybody apart from staff indoors. I went to the car to get our masks. No question.

Earlier in the day we had gone to a posh hotel for a cream tea. Although we were going to be eating on the terrace, we had to walk through the hotel to get to the terrace and they made us wear masks inside the hotel. Again we just did it.

Neither of those occasions was it compulsory to wear a mask, it was just the establishments exercising their own judgment on what was required to keep their staff and guests safe, at a time when we have a zillion visitors to the county. We didn't question the house rules and didn't witness anybody else doing so. We just went along with it. At the end of the day we could always have gone somewhere else but we chose not to.

I really don't see what the big issue is with masks

My issue is simply remembering to have it on me haha. I've got 3 now: 1 in my car, 1 in my coat and 1 in the house I try take with me.
