Sorry mate, Sweden's strategy fell flat on its face, many, many, many lives lost unnecessarily, all in an attempt to gain natural herd immunity a decision based on not knowing how long antibodies worked for. They are a prime example of not what to do. They are the second worst in the world per captia. Really irresponsible stuff. Dont think its a wait and see, the results are in and are terrible, they failed the first round of this.

Fair few here were calling for herd immunity back in early days it's no coincidence that the UK government was contemplating such a measure and self appointed Stepfords came chomping at the bit for some natural selection

Interesting study looking at the risk of health care workers getting Covid as opposed to the general community.

It would be interesting to know what they define as front line care workers. Do they mean people exposed to the covid virus on a daily basis, such as hospital staff and care home workers, or are they including all those that work in the thousands of GP surgeries around the country.

I can't speak for the country as a whole, but certainly GP surgeries down here in Cornwall have ensconced themselves within a protective ring of steel and have as much chance of contracting the virus through work as an astronaut in a space centre. So as scary as those figures appear, they may actually be getting diluted if the surgery workers are included.

The current wisdom is that antibodies, last 2/3 months before they start reducing in effectiveness, natural herd immunity in that scenario is madness and leads to unnecessary deaths and as yet in known long term health impacts. Either way Swedan has a population of north of 10 million with 80k cases, no where near making a dent in effectiveness in natural herd immunity even if it could be achieved in this instance. Their policy has led to many, many unnecessary deaths and loss of life. That article above is ridiculous, their chief CMO saying we've done well apart from all the deaths we have had. Mad.

Nah, they're not.

If either successful treatments and/or vaccines become available in the next, say, 12 months, Sweden's strategy for dealing with the virus will look stupid, but they're not even currently the second worst in Europe for deaths per capita, never mind the world.

Belgium, UK, Spain and Italy are all worse than Sweden.
That's not defending their strategy, it's just a fact.

Is there any other paper worse than the daily mirror for scaremongering over this virus?

Every day its "2nd wave warning" or "pubs to reclose experts warn"

Just STFU and wait and see.

Fair dues, they were the worst in May at one point, which led to a change in policy, they basically do everything everyone else does now bar they didn't lock down. They are actually quite good on testing.

I honestly just think it’s a general intelligence thing. Whilst you don’t have to be smart to understand the gov asking you to wear a mask; I find the more stupid someone is the less likely they are to understand the virus, masks, social distancing etc. They just don’t get it.
Much the same thought struck me in relation to the (Greater) Melbourne 2nd wave.
Which on its own is set to equal and or exceed the National 1st wave death total.

Then there's these 3 idiots
dickheads 2.jpg

Who...allegedly etc.
Flew from Melbourne to Sydney after telling 1 story
Destroyed their phones, told another story to get into queensland.then in the space of 2 or 3 ds ys went to at least 25 different locations, including an old persons home where 2 of them worked, a restaurant...where 20 or 30 people were social distance dining.
Police have now come out with allegations of their links to orginised crime and a designer handbag hoist

Stupid doesn't even begin to cover it ffs

If you lose the first round in a boxing match does it mean you’ve lost the fight?

Their number of deaths is high in the elderly and they had a massive issue in care homes. That doesn’t mean it’s ok and their chief epidemiologist acknowledged these failings and apologised for them. Little consolation to the loved ones of the bereaved of course.

The deaths per capita argument was perhaps true at one stage but it is simply not true anymore.

If you want to argue that a lockdown would have saved a majority of the deaths in Sweden then you can. I feel like that’s pretty hard to prove though. If lockdown would have saved a majority of those lives, then what does it say about other countries that have implemented them and have seen a lot of deaths? Where those people doomed no matter what? Is lockdown inherently flawed? Or is it all down to the government and the public whether they succeed or not?

As another poster stated, if a vaccine comes quickly then they’re strategy will for sure look pretty heartless. I just think this idea that lockdown= good, Sweden= bad is pretty simplistic. There’s too many variables, for example why are Belgium so hardly hit despite a stringent lockdown? Australia who boldly claimed to have beaten the virus in late May are now seeing a massive uptick in cases.

Admittedly it’s hard to debate around something when people are losing their lives, but they are an interesting counterpoint to the rest of the world.

Smoking is a choice
Drinking is a choice

Walking around freely should be a choice imo
Yet on the motorway it says no this, no them, no pedestrians, would you go for a walk there because you felt it was your right to choose?
Free speech is also your choice, yet you use that right to choose to talk shight.
You should exercise your right to remain silent...now that would be a good choice.
