Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Ha ha, bloody hell, 'disgusting', I jokingly called you a definite non-racist. I'm sorry it upset you so.

I never said speculating is racist. I did say it might expose inbuilt prejudices when you have no proof but you are 'speculating' that Asian people might have caused more of the spike. You can keep saying you shouldn't blame the Asian population but you are doing nothing but adding to any fire of bigotry that suggests this is somehow the fault of the Asian population, or the working class population, or anybody but a government that has handled it appallingly. The fact you refuse to look at your own language or 'speculation' as part of a larger thing is disgusting frankly.

I said this. I said the danger is speculation turning into blame. I literally said that exact thing.

The part you're missing - on purpose - is the fact that such speculation is natural. The speculation doesn't fuel bigotry because it's absolutely inevitable that anyone would speculate given that evidence.

You are expecting everyone to turn a blind eye to the obvious link between all those areas and the timing, even if it ends up being erroneous - you are asking people to literally turn off their brain and pretend they didn't notice.

Which is stupid. Very, very stupid. It's ignoring reality and pretending only your ideology exists and is correct.

People can be not racist and speculate as to whether asian communities were a factor here. They are not incongruent positions to hold. The fact you came in and said "definitely non-racist" in response speaks volumes.

The issue comes when you start speculating from a place of no knowledge. This is where prejudice and bigotry take hold. Turning off your brain is just going, 'well a lot of Asians live there' - that is not the smart thought process, it's the stupid thought process.
Speculation is turning into blame. It's like saying, 'don't take offence'. You don't get to go, 'well I'm not necessarily blaming them BUT' and think that's a get out of jail free card

I came in at this making a light joke based on your appearance, repeatedly, in threads taking the side of the establishment and often against the minority. I got a bit hot headed and antagonistic after what I felt was your inability to accept that you have inbuilt prejudices or you can be in the wrong. I apologise if that meant this conversation got off track in to the point of whether you are a racist. As I said repeatedly, I didn't call you that and I am sorry if I wasn't clear. I won't however, back down from the belief that your language and commentary is not as balanced and not blaming a community as you think it is.

Fair enough.

I said as much though. You seem to have an issue that I joined in with the speculation, and thus fuelled bigotry, when to be honest the best way to combat bigotry is to acknowledge the speculation but present counter-balance to it.

If you just pretend that the speculation has "no evidence" when it clearly does then it just fuels people to get frustrated and create more bigotry, because you're telling people they're not allowed to think.

It's not a weakness to say "yeah 30 areas, largely asian populations, it's possible asian communities are the hotbed for these spikes, but there's dozens of other possible reasons too and even if it IS the asian communities it's not necessarily because they've done something wrong". That's actually how you combat bigotry because you are presenting a compelling argument instead of "no, shut up".

To be honest, I read your post and I immediately thought “this looks like something that’s been written by someone who’s a fan of Mein Kampf” but I didn’t want to outwardly say it sorry.

jesus christ. I'm hardly saying racist things. I stated a while ago on this thread it was coming in Pendle
Yeah...

As per usual, you have absolutely nothing in reply because you have absolutely no intelligence.

If you think I'm a racist, say it. If not, do one.
Oh gosh.

I am just curious about the people you often seem to jump to the defence of and those you choose not to.
It’s to get people banned.

Wait? Is this news real? Is this really what the government is saying?

So people in the greater Manchester area can not go to someone else's house, but they can;

  • Go to the pub
  • Go to a large supermarket
  • Go to a restaurant
  • Queue up for shops

Apart from the obvious wtf because that clearly doesn't make sense anymore. It also says

  • Two households cannot for example go the pub together

So how do you get anyone in the pub because the minute you have more than one person in there it's two households?!

Things are getting more and more ridiculous now. Literally, go and get plastered , shop all you want with hundreds of others , fine dine etc. But absolutely not go to someone's house.

Jesus this is getting embarrassing.

I personally think trying to link these lockdowns to a minority group is racist.

So, yeah, some of you need to take a look at yourselves and the views you look to constantly make and defend.
Mate everything is racist , even talking about it offends someone.

I was told that down in places with high communities of Asian communities were flouting lockdown anyway for their own religious stuff , cricket etc all along

I have no idea if that's true , certainly haven't seen any Asian cricket matches in Liverpool. But if there is a chance it is true, people probably didn't say anything in fear of being called racist.

Curious to know who told you that - was it something you read on FB or a real person with knowledge/evidence?
