I don't want to wear a mask and don't think I should be compelled to do so, but if I have to do it then I will.

Keeping distance the most important thing and people aren't good at it in my experience.
Keeping distance is not always possible in all fairness, especially in enclosed spaces

Given that everyone from old to unhealthy , bald and whatever else is coming from the experts , I don't really listen to every new thing that is theorised.

I go on the basis that there has been mass gatherings over and over since the start of June and there hasn't been any actual flare up. Pick the Leicester one out for example and it's lots of people in one location which is easily explainable. We haven't seen a mass surge in London or Liverpool following the gatherings.

By all means avoid them still for a while but more and more normality returns and all we get is isolated cases. Within a month it will be all fine again.

I also believe that the virus may never go away without a vaccine but we won't see levels that we have.

Thanks for your expert opinion, Doctor Kenshin

Most obese people become obese cos they lack intelligence and eat too much and dont exercise thus becoming a huge unnecessary burden on the rest of us.

My freedoms have been almost entirely removed over the past 4 months seemingly in order to protect a tiny minority of the fat and terminally ill.

I am not nor have ever been responsible for forcing food down someone's throat while holding them hostage on a couch for years.

Yet I've had almost everything I enjoy doing taken from me cos theres someone going around force feeding them while strapping them down on a couch. Unusual.

Look ...expressing opinions is what a forum is all about, but you’re starting to cross boundaries with blaming folks who have caught the virus.
You want to extol the virtues of a healthy lifestyle, go for it; we could all do better...although I’d suggest being a bit less smug about it if you want anyone to listen.

There will be people on this forum that will have someone they care about suffer or die due to COVID — for that reason, and for decency’s sake, shaming, blaming or general derogatory comments about folks with COVID is not acceptable .

Yeah I know but the people in the supermarket who ignore the one way system and literally climb over you to get at things really wind me up.

Its only been like 17 weeks or something yet some still don't get it.

I'll wear a covering but I really hope this is a short term thing. It shouldn't become the long term norm.

Its ok the Tory death cult will change their mind soon.

I've heard experts in the media saying coverings do little good. Yet other experts say they are extremely good protection. So I dunno what to think.

General consensus among scientists is that they help cut transmission. Even those who aren't massive proponents of mask wearing mostly believe they won't do any harm.

There'll be a few outliers who disagree, there always are, but it makes sense to wear them, if for no other reason to try and reduce transmission before late Autumn / Winter kicks in, when it's expected that infections will start to increase again. The lower the rate of transmission is before we enter Winter, the more wriggle room we have.

Sorry you feel that way mate. I've been shielding at home for about 14 weeks (maybe longer, not even sure now). I am not fat nor terminally ill. I had a double lung transplant 13 years ago so I am high risk. Is you being able to go the pub, shops, cinema or whatever really more important than my life? Obviously I do not know how exactly I could be affected but I don't really want to find out if I can help it.

I've hardly had the time of my life and wish I could go where I want to go. My 'freedoms' have been restricted more than yours have (unless you are also shielding..?).

town has been pretty quiet really , seems midweek has been busier than expected as people seem to be avoiding busy times . Places with outside areas are doing better and most places finding they’re closing early as people have a couple and head home .

you’ve made clear your opinions on the British public but the vast majority are policing themselves and behaving in a sensible and responsible manner .

I`ve just spend three nights in the Lake District, staying in two different pubs and eating in another two pubs and it would take me too long to explain how seriously every business in the area of the Lakes I was in, is taking all this.

Ffs, I got a takeout cup of tea from a farm shop and I had to sign a contract tracing form !!!!!

At the same time the sense of relief that tourists were back was palpable.

Some of these business`s in effect are the " major " employers for isolated rural communities and if they`d have remained shut over the Summer, some of these communities would`ve effectively been wiped out in one go.

During 3 nights and two days, I didn`t see a single person behaving in anyway irresponsibly and that included social distancing on some very busy pathways up the fells.

I think you've got the answer there to why it's compulsory in some places to wear masks (e.g. shops) whilst not in pubs. Governments have to balance public health and economic agendas. If a business can operate with masks, make it compulsory, otherwise not. Overall the public health risk is still reduced though not eliminated.
