It looks like past new cases may have been double counted in some areas, it’s a little confusing but it’s one of those things
Adjusted for double counting, which was known about, but that's why there is such a dramatic reduction.

The time series has been revised though, so there is now data on cases going back to February.

I have been saying for some time 'don't trust the data too much'.

Hows it work the pubs then? Do you actually have to call say an individual wetherspoons up to reserve a table for drinks? And how long is the table for?

I’d say with the likes of Spoons you’re best going on line to look at their policy.

Regular pubs / bars have a look at their Facebook page.

There’s 9 pubs / bars by me and they all seem to be doing things in a slightly different way to each other :

A few are first come first served, a few are meet and greet and others you have to book a table in advance.

The PHE weekly surveillance report came out earlier, available from

It now contains the Pillar 1 + 2 hotspots as per

which quite starkly illustrates how quickly Leicester got out of control. Although it's easy to say in retrospect, it also suggests a bit of dithering may well have happened, and a week may have been lost.
I was watching the Local Council leader press conference earlier in the week and couldn't believe it when he said he was waiting over a week for the detailed information to come through.

Given that the information was only provided after they had signed some data protection documentation, it would appear that the delay was caused by internal bureaucracy, probably related to the data provided by Deloitte, the external contractor in the testing process.

It's shameful really that, in times of a crisis like this one, such important data can be held up by red tape for such a long time. As we have found out to our cost, 7 days with this virus can be measured in hundreds, if not thousands of lives. It shows how inflexible our health system can be and also a distinct lack of leadership at ministerial level to allow this to take so long to sort out.

Booking Procedure
We thought it would be helpful to let you all know in advance of how we will be taking table bookings at The Farmers Arms, opening on Saturday 4th July!
We will be taking bookings via telephone/email only, from Tuesday 30th June. If you have already contacted us by email, we will be in touch in due course.
**PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR OPENING WEEKEND (4th & 5th of July) WILL BE BOOKINGS ONLY.**
• All guests must have a table to eat & drink, whether inside or outside, therefore bookings are strongly recommended. ‘Walk-in/Chance’ bookings will be offered, subject to availability at the door. We will be actively discouraging queues/waiting at the door, table service will be in operation throughout.
• Below are the current government guidelines for group bookings. Note that we will be collecting household information from all guests to assist in contact tracing procedures.
• Unfortunately, children under the age of 16 will not be admitted for bookings past 5pm.
• Bookings from 5pm onwards will have a minimum spend of £20 per head.
• Tables will have a 2-hour limit, which allows us time to satisfactorily sanitise areas between guests use.
• You may book a table out for longer subject to meeting our minimum spend requirement.
• Please arrive for tables on time – unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a space for socialising ahead of your allotted time.
• Tables arriving later than 10 minutes past the booking will be let go/guests notifying us they will be arriving late and are able to eat within their time frame will still be charged the £20 per head minimum.
• Table bookings from 9am until 3pm will be staggered, no cover charge applies.
• All guests are politely reminded of their own responsibilities for social awareness and to follow displayed and given instructions.
• Indoor gatherings should only be occurring in groups of up to two households (including support bubbles) while outdoor gatherings should only be occurring in groups of up to two households (or support bubbles), or a group of at most six people from any number of households. It is against the law to gather in groups of more than 30 people
• We will utilise government guidelines and protect your sensitive information under our GDPR responsibilities.
Thank you for your understanding and helping us make your experience a better one

Quick Mill update...
We're getting ready to re-open.
Grand unlocking of the doors will occur at 11am on Saturday 4th July.
Food service will begin at 12 noon on Sunday 5th July.
Like everyone else we will be offering table service only, sadly no standing to drink anywhere inside. We will also need to monitor tables and the number of households to ensure we stick to all the very many rules!
Outside is slightly more relaxed with the rules and we can accommodate groups of six people from six different households. We will ensure we have as many tables outside as we are allowed and is safe.
We are very lucky in that we have loads of room inside over our three floors. We will have a host on the door who will sort you a table. You will also be able to book via our ResDiary website from Monday once we've finalised our table plans https://www.resdiary.com/restaurant/themillatulverston
Our bars will be fully stocked, our prices are not going up from where they were in March and it'll be just fantastic to have the building busy again.
Once you're sat at your table everything should come to you... We will have an app and other ordering systems to make it as easy as possible. Payment via card will be preferred.
We have spent the last four weeks sorting out PPE, hand sanitising units, signage and planning. Our absolute first priority is yours and our staff's safety.
The place will be a little different at first with the signs, hand sanitising units, ordering system and staff with PPE... but once you're at your table among your friends and loved ones, with a drink and a bite to eat... it'll feel just like before.
We will provide more news soon on our menus, food service times and anything else we can think of...

You disagree, or insult, every time I give you my opinion, why are interested now?

Speak to the heroes on the front line if you want answers.
I'm asking you for what a change of methodology on counting cases meant in reality. You work in the health sector and I thought you might have insight.

Obviously not.

I expect it's more likely due to checking the accuracy of the data (double testing) than bureaucracy.

I have plenty of opinion and insight. I'm asking why would I want to share it with you when you have done nothing but wrongly draw your own conclusions from previous information I've given, create your own straw man to destroy or insult my conclusions previously?

I'm sure your family members working on the front line can help you.

Is that the Farmers Arms in Baycliff ?

I’d expect nothing less from them, wonderful pub, who gave away all their food to the food bank in Ulverston when all this started.

Haven’t you got some important work to do pushing pens lol
