Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Is it miserable to point out how many people are still dying with this virus here and showing it needn't be that way?

Maybe we should forget these people eh? Would that lighten your load?

Don't virtue signal Dave. Firstly, you wouldn't be able to tell me a single one of the people who have died this week's name, much less anything about them and their life. Please don't pretend you're leading a crusade for their wellbeing. Secondly, you've spent much of the past few years deriding large swathes of the population, whether as unthinking serfs or self-serving spivs, purely for the temerity of not voting for your beloved socialist utopia. That you now pretend to care for these people when their sole purpose for you is to provide you with a stick to beat the government with is quite telling.

I don't think anyone would claim this isn't an unpleasant and extreme circumstance. I don't think anyone would claim we shouldn't try and be as informed as possible so that we are as well placed as possible to get through this as best we can, both as individuals and as a community. Quite what you, on here, and randoms on Twitter think they're achieving by shouting DEATH and MURDERERERS at every opportunity is beyond me. You're not affecting any meaningful change. You're not informing people. You're certainly not entertaining us. What's the point of it all?

If people dont want the boring deaths being posted or repeated then why are they in the thread. Im sure there are some uplifting positive threads, like the Tory one where we can just post all their upbeat lies

Because the thread is for more than just posting death counts.

Hundreds of people die in the UK every single day, a significant number of which are due to ailments which could be avoided through better diet and exercise. Where are these outraged people posting those death figures on a daily basis versus xyz country ?

I find this thread genuinely informative a lot of the time. I also find it a place of light hearted relief as we try and get through this. If I were to rank the things I value from this thread, the daily death toll would be comfortably at the bottom.

TBF if we are going to be a better country after this then we really should be outraged by things that have likely facilitated this disaster - poor quality housing, pollution causing breathing problems in an increasing % of the population (especially in London), obesity, people who are scared to go sick because they will be fired, irresponsible cuts to local government and the NHS etc etc

Lots of people here were outraged by some of those things before this, and spoke about it on here.

This isnt the unhealthy lifestyle deaths thread though.

The deaths themselves are not outrageous, a global pandemic will kill people. lts the fact that 90% of them is down to neglect, heartlessness, lies and corruption is.

Peolpe have just become bored of it now

I'd find discussions about those kind of things infinitely interesting tbh. Heaven knows, there's enough being written and spoken about what the post-covid world might look like at the moment.

It may be but they are a big part of the conversation. The only reason there is a thread for it is because its a killer so showing the death toll is a signifcant part of the discussion - there isnt a thread discussing common colds or the norovirus is there?

if I may don my tinfoil hat for a moment.
given the counting a pair of gloves as 2 pieces of ppe and my general mistrust of the current figures is the following beyond the realms of plausibility?

A death tests positive for COVID and say pneumonia, could a decision be made to mark some of them as pure pneumonia to massage the figures?
And now my sinister tinfoil hat...do you reckon that someone in the govt had calculated the savings on state pensions, freeing up the housing market, death taxes, etc due to aged deaths?
GPs fill in death certs not politicians. And why would the Tories kill off their voters.

It's not the covid deaths thread either. And frankly, the notion that 90% of deaths are down to Tory murderererering is silly. Belgium has a higher per capita death rate. Spain, Italy and France are all in the ball park. Even Germany has more than the 10% you believe are purely down to the virus rather than Johnson personally.

The deaths are important, but when you have someone purposefully going onto Twitter to say "cooee, look at us, aren't we doing [Poor language removed]?". Well yeah, thanks buddy. Then you have that non-stop for 4 months. If you had a friend like that you'd be changing your number and pulling the curtains.

Its the Coronavirus thread. The people who die due to the coronavirus are part of that discussion.

Im really confused by this argument.
