I can't see it making a lot of difference, 1m or 2m. People are going to get close, especially when they have had a couple of pints.
Anybody with the virus is going to pass it on, sans doute.

1 metre is actually quite significant, normally in a pub you’d be far closer than that whenever you go to the bar, and whenever you are sat at a table with others.

Not saying it’s enough, mind.

Unfortunately, we will.

Have you learned nothing from the last few months?

Look at better run countries than this (and there are a lot of them). NZ, Australia, Japan, Germany...all far better at getting on top of the first wave now looking at fresh outbreaks when they decide to relax the lockdown rules. This country will face carnage in a few months if that happens here.

I’ve learnt that you’ve been predicting a second wave for every stage of a lockdown relaxation and you are desperate for it to happen.

My point is that they are certainly going to get closer than 1m. It will be impossible to enforce the distance rule in pubs.

The R being at 2.8 in Germany is due
to isolated outbreaks which are being contained through targeted lockdowns. Their national disease centre has said they are not concerned about a nationwide outbreak.

Misrepresenting facts again.
Isolated outbreaks. Anything can be descibed as isolated outbreaks. The north west of England was 'localised'. You cant keep this localised.

Another one who never learns a lesson.

The big problem is the perception of the risk. 2m rule people reduce that distance because they think 'a little bit won't do much harm' and the same will apply to 1m. Within pub settings and indoor areas that 1m starts to become awfully close when you start from 1m but 'lean in' or 'reach over'.

2m becomes 1m
1m becomes 0m.

1m in most people's minds means simply: there is no distancing rule. Simple as that.

So you’re saying the German disease centre are wrong and you know better because ?

Strange as you’ve held Germany up as a bastion of Covid control until now.

At 1m distance you are 10 x more likely to catch an infection than at 2m distance.

That is the only consideration that should be made here. That is the medical view. All the rest arguing for 1m is purely commercial. The latter distance will definitley lead to more infections and more deaths.
