I’m not sure they are ‘demanding’ the reduction. Pub owners are just saying that if it’s 2m then they cannot afford to reopen, and will not reopen, and then people will be sacked. It’s a choice......
I can't see it making a lot of difference, 1m or 2m. People are going to get close, especially when they have had a couple of pints.
Anybody with the virus is going to pass it on, sans doute.

that’s possible but when the smoking ban was introduced everyone said pubs will never be able to enforce it and they’ll just smoke, that never happened.

R-number in Germany after a month of relaxation of lockdown and social distancing almost at 3.

In the light of that, any responsible government here should be turning away from relaxation of rules.

With it looking like it`s going down to one metre, in other words normal, I suspect they`ll be making more use of localised lockdowns if things starting going tits up again.

It`s down a degree of commonsense and personal responsibility too.

"Australia is battling a coronavirus outbreak in its second largest city – fuelled by family gatherings and birthday parties – that has resulted in large parts of Melbourne being shut down in an attempt to halt the spread of the virus just weeks after authorities lifted restrictions. On Monday, a national health committee recommended that more than one million people remain in their suburbs amid the growing health emergency in the southern state of Victoria. The state government is now considering making the stay-home advice legally enforceable."

People may moan but they quickly adapt.

There`ll be a lot of people who will be quite cautious to start too and will want to see how things go, before venturing back into the pub again.

To me the problem will come in city centre bars, where everyone drinks standing up and hop from bar to bar, rather than your well run local boozer, which has regulars who respect the place and want it to thrive.

Let's get this right: when pubs and restaurants open up they will be potent delivery systems for Covid19 and we'll be back to where we were in March within weeks.

Utter BS.

They all serve alcohol and when people drink enough of it they lose all sense of space and propriety. And pub or bar owners are desperate for cash and wont feel a great deal of compulsion to step in and dampen the atmosphere for fear of losing custom to somewhere else.

There is no justification for any pub or bar or restaurant opening up - other than for outdoor servings, at best.

The R being at 2.8 in Germany is due
to isolated outbreaks which are being contained through targeted lockdowns. Their national disease centre has said they are not concerned about a nationwide outbreak.

Misrepresenting facts again.

We won’t.

Unfortunately, we will.

Have you learned nothing from the last few months?

Look at better run countries than this (and there are a lot of them). NZ, Australia, Japan, Germany...all far better at getting on top of the first wave now looking at fresh outbreaks when they decide to relax the lockdown rules. This country will face carnage in a few months if that happens here.
