Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Whoever at NZ Immigration signed off on their compassionate consideration leave without first requesting that they undertake a COVID test before leaving quarantine should at the very least be asked to resign, and at worst prosecuted for criminal negligence. Peoples' lives and livelihoods are at stake.
Call me callous but I would rather the whole "compassionate grounds" thing was binned. As it just has been. 14 days quarantine and take it or leave it. Too many have suffered too much, too many have a heap of problems coming their way. Just too risky.
Wonder if they considered going back to level 2? Oh my that will be unpopular

Not just that, but let loose to drive across the country. 8, 10 hours from Auckland to Wellington. Let loose cos they seemed like the kind of people who could be trusted, apparently. What if they broke down, had a crash, got lost - which it seems happened.
I imagine there are many very angry people in the country, angry that what we worked hard for has been compromised so easily.

meanwhile in Montgomery Alabama, where the ICUs are full, the mask ordinance failed because COVID actually doesn't exist

Alabama / any city within Alabama would only ever passed that if it had been ordering people of colour to wear masks.

Mate, I'd love our country to be in the position where your country is and where it is so considerate but firm in how it's dealing with the crisis.

Can't say the same here!

Despite the cases in NZ, I'd still have total confidence in the response there.

The fact that two cases causes this level of attention is just testament to the absolute zeal the authorities have in eliminating covid.

That level of focus is whats needed.

There will continue to be cases, but it must be fantastic as a citizen / resident there to see how absolutely successful their response was and is.

With hindsight it's now obvious the kitchen sink should have been thrown at those most at risk. And those of us of low risk of developing serious complications should have more or less gone about our lives as normal, work and leisure etc.

Agree completely mate, but I think the fact this country, the government, authorities and 99.9% of the population have responded so well to the pandemic is precisely the reason why we're so angry at the selfish, thoughtless actions of a couple of people. It just feels like all that hard work and sacrifices have been put in jeopardy.

I really hope the UK gets to the stage we're at very soon.

Isnt that the US mate?

You lads need to realise the UK & US are VERY different societies.

Why the BLM protests over here shouting F Der Police when we have some of the softest cops around was a joke.
Exactly right. The UK doesn't have any of these US problems.

What we need is the army on the streets and give these black lads protesting a good clip, before Coronavirus gets the chance!

The whole report is utter bollocks if you ask me.

But if it helps to make change then it serves its purpose.

To expand.

" He said more than 90% of doctors who had died during the pandemic were from BAME backgrounds. Doctors from these communities were also three times as likely to say they had felt pressured to work without sufficient protective equipment, he added. "

90% of Doctors were BAME, but the first thing they go to is racism.

I cant even.
No different to saying black communities are more susceptible to the virus based not on genetics but on social economic issues.

This new report sounds to me like it's almost tying into the current narrative in the country rather than offer anything seriously valuable.

Same as bald men are more susceptible , smokers are safer and toilet flushes are dangerous for the virus.

Its rule by social media mate - populism is the word of the day.

BLM was popular in the US (and rightfully so) so it gave those in the UK an excuse to do a bit of protesting - netflix taking certain shows off their service is just further proof of the message getting lost in populist drivel to say "look how socially awoke we are".

Its a farce.

Sickening isn't it. Imagine protesting against a police brutality in the US when we haven't ever seen any in the UK. And black lads in the UK don't really have it as bad as any of the White lads in the uk that are regularly targeted by grooming gangs and nobody says anything because you called called a racist of you do!

We really need more of the US police on UK streets to set our lads straight - give them a taste of what real policing is to toughen them up and send them back to their safe spaces to cry into their avocados. And while we're at it

They should know that inequality stops during a Pandemic, it just gets put on hold while some of us focus on the important stuff like getting a haircut and a pint.

I dont know why you're so angry mate - just admit whenever the issue of race comes up its always blown over proportion to the point that bells start moaning about crap like coco pops that distort any sensible message.

I've been stopped as a young lad by police randomly - I just got on with it as the estate I lived in growing up was dog rough nowadays police must be terrified of stopping a BAME person as its automatically turned into some massive race story when it might not be to do with race at all.

Too many in the UK looking for problems that are not there - now Covid-19 is racist deary me.
