I’m at the point with Covid as I think many others are, where less than 100 deaths per day cannot be deemed a reason to continue locking down society.
I think the issue is more about making sure those numbers don't start to increase again because too much was relaxed, too soon.
With something like 1 in 1500 people currently infected, and probably infectious to some degree, then transmission could easily ramp up again, leading to increased deaths three to five weeks down the line.
Is there such a thing as "acceptable deaths" ? Well yes, though it's not terminology which I'm comfortable using, but if overall deaths ( including COVID ) are at or below average, then, at a macro level, that's probably acceptable, at least until we have a treatment or vaccine anyway.
But I'd struggle to sell that concept to someone who's about to lose a loved one to COVID.
