Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

The abuse you will get for asking customers to shop as you want them to will come as a surprise.
They are sick of it, lockdown has been over for them for weeks.
What i would advise you is to have a plan for when it rains. Seriously.
Hope it goes well for you, but I can't see most shops being that busy immediately.

If you’ve ever seen the Primark in Liverpool (the store I’m based at), we have a slight roof either side of the doors to shield from the rain. We’ve been told in no uncertain terms that it doesn’t matter if it’s belting down or not, they are not yealding to allow more people in than necessary, basically put up with queuing or don’t bother coming in period

For this first week, I won’t be in anyway as I was due to be off this week pre lockdown on holiday time that I’d put in for in January but I’ll be keeping up to date how things go through mates to get an idea how it’s being managed

Its been quite cheerful in the supermarket queues down here. Deffo worth the pay off for a quiet shop.

But yeah, we have been blessed with decent weather.

1) That could be a very long time away from happening, it’s hard enough at present keeping individual regions from flip flopping between 0.8-1-1

2) while still in 4 figures at present, the infection cases are sliding daily

3) their biggest error not having this sooner, can’t trust them to actually run it effectively

4) I agree with you on this, I’ve found it a struggle to wear in work this week but I feel safer doing so
So, basically, you agree that the conditions to safely move back into the High Street aren't there yet?

This is putting profit before people's lives and / or well-being. There's no other way of dressing this up. The medical community know this and have spoken out about this being folly to open up again in these circumstances.

You opening the fitting rooms for people to try on clothes ?

Alternative list for starting the shopping:

1/ R-number down below 0.5
2/ Cases of infection in their hundreds rather than thousands
3/ Trace and track at promised "world class" level
4/ Mandate (as in many countries) all people to wear face masks in shops

The government have proven that they are incapable of getting any of those things sorted so we will just have to get on with things or we'll be waiting forever.

They aren’t there but as people keep telling you, the government cannot keep up affording to have millions of non essential and self employed people on furlough schemes, it’ll cause as much if not more damage to people’s mental and physical wellbeing As the reserves they have gradually dwindle and they lose homes

No, all fitting rooms are staying shut, if they try anything but don’t buy, it goes straight into quarantine. Shoes/trainers can be tried on but they will be disinfected. We’ve revamped the return system so that till staff don’t touch anything, the customers will be asked to hang up any returns, once processed, on to the provided rails which will then be taken off the floor for 72 hours

I would imagine you will have loads of summer stock already purchased that will need selling lively. ( We sold all ours off 4 weeks ago in 50% off sale )
Then it's the back to school clothing, you will have ready for September. Are the kids going back ? So that stock could sit in the warehouse for ages.
Then comes Halloween costumes. Can you go knocking on people's doors trick or treating ?
And then your into Christmas.

The clothing game is going to be very tough indeed.

Ball ache all round mate.

They cant. Not much more anyrate.

You clearly havnt much of a clue how Government borrowing works. They/we already issue £billions of gilts every month. Have done forever.

Its called sovereign debt, because it is gold plated in terms of risk of non payment of neither the yield nor an eventual redemption.
Merica owes China $trillions.

In April, UK borrowed £40 Billion more than they did last April. No reason why May and June will be any improvement. That 3 months of perhaps £120 Billion borrowed basically to pay folk. Not a train station, or a hospital, literally, on nothing of substance.

Sure, the yield will be low, (thats the interest rate the international market will accept by the way), but the second that market raises a collective eyebrow that perhaps this purchase is at risk of default, (google any South American country for an example), chaos.

And the "usual" borrowing, like for hospitals and train stations kinda gets daft expensive, or dries up.

So yeah, lets keep the shops shut.
The Bank of England has already stepped in to take up £200B of gilts. It can go further down that road if it chooses / is forced to. That's ultimately a political affair. The Treasury can exert influence over the Bank (it already has done). It (the Bank) is independent, but they are, as Bailey underlined, part of this society. It can buy debt if it's influenced to do that also.

You are thinking with a pre-Covid mindset. A war will be waged over who pays for this crisis, just as one was waged - and won and lost - over who paid for the Crash of 08-09. This is social relations not rocket science, ultimately.

The shops reopening: that has to be SAFELY approached. So, yeah, let's keep them shut...unless you thinlk the critera HAS been achieved to reopen them safely??

KEEP OUT OF THE SHOPS.

STAY SAFE.

Ball ache all round mate.

It is but it’s a necessity, may make people think more about buying only what they need and not cos they think it looks good, for example underwear, socks, tights, kids clothing rather than a dressy dress or a cute top or gimmicky T-shirts

Well I had a woman come out of the customer toilets the other day and hand me literally an arm full of clothes she had tried on in the bogs and she walked off.

Do not underestimate the stupidity of some of your customers mate.
